Recent events in and around Syria have seemed both alarming and odd at the same time. What's going on?
Israel and/or NATO supplied chemical weapons to their mercenaries in Syria and blamed the Syrian govt for their use. This failed to be convincing.
"U.N. human rights investigators have gathered testimony from casualties of Syria's civil war and medical staff indicating that rebel forces have used the nerve agent sarin, one of the lead investigators said on Sunday." (curiously reported by Reuters)
Meanwhile, the paid NATO mercenaries (the Orwellian Free Syrian Army - FSA) are losing ground literally in their battle with the Syrian army. Things are not going well for Tel Aviv and Washington.
Netanyahu plans a trip to China and John Kerry is in Russia. Kerry meets with Vladimir Putin over Syria apparently to no avail.
Lawrence Wilkerson in an interview on teevee primes everyone to expect something provocative from Netanyahu (and therefore israel) causing the US to intervene in the event of any retaliation.
Then israeli jets attack sites in and around Damascus in an overt act of war.
Netanyahu quickly tries to tell the Syrian govt and people that the israeli attacks are not meant to hurt Syria or help the NATO mercenaries who are bringing chaos (just like israel is) to Syria. No, no, it is really aimed at Hezbollah.
Syria states the obvious that they are now in a state of war with israel and vow retaliation.
More after the jump
Russia and China express alarm at israeli actions and Netanyahu is conveniently scheduled to meet with China's leadership. Kerry is also conveniently in Moscow and is blowing in Lavrov's ear saying 'we need a summit' to talk about a solution to the crisis (that israel and Kerry's own govt are creating).
source - ("He who would sup with the devil needs a looooong spoon, indeed")
The alarming event is undoubtedly the unprovoked attack (and war crime) on Syrian territory by israel. And the odd event is the lack of the usual psychopathic gloating about the attack by israel and the relative lack of publicity given it all in the Zionist press.
What's going on?
Well, here's my take on it all.
Israel never negotiates when they have the advantage. They only negotiate when facing defeat. (so why would you ever want to negotiate with israel when the only time it is offered to you is when you have the upper hand?) And they (i.e. their proxies, the FSA) were definitely losing and facing defeat in Syria. If the FSA were to be thrown out of Syria, this would become the tipping point in the resistance to the Zionist quest for world domination. So high stakes, indeed, calling for desperate measures.
So israel, in a dangerous move of brinksmanship, ups the ante and is now threatening major warfare involving israel and the US directly and threatening Russia and China in the process. The air attack against Damascus was designed to put Russia and China on a decision as to whether or not to take direct action to protect Syria (and ultimately themselves). Something that the zionists are gambling that they don't want to take.
"The alternative [to a negotiated solution] is that there is even more violence," Mr Kerry said.
"The alternative is that Syria heads closer to an abyss, if not over the abyss, and into chaos. The alternative is that the humanitarian crisis will grow. The alternative is that there may be even a break up of Syria." - John Kerry.
This is an open threat against Russia and China if they don't come to the party and bring the Syrian government to 'the negotiating table'. While at the same time making it difficult for Russia to support Syria in retaliating against israel.
The Zionists want Russia and China to do something for them that they have been unable to achieve themselves through force of arms. They want Russia and China to retrieve their FSA's weakened position and, in turn, weaken Syria at the negotiating table so that the Zionists, through their agents, israel, the US, NATO and the FSA, can take up the armed struggle again after hobbling the Syrian government through concessions and sanctions.
Needless to say (as far as I'm concerned, anyway) Russia and China should not entertain these emissaries of death, Kerry and Netanyahu, and 'show them the door' at the very least, and respond in some measure that tells israel and the US that they are aware of the real situation rather than the illusion created by US threats and israeli intimidation!
In other words, the Zionists are bluffing. It is a dangerous game but I believe Russia should call their bluff while they still have the upper hand rather than negotiate away their's and Syria's advantage.
ADDENDUM
Dublinmick left this link to a FarsNews report on Putin's reaction to Israel's aggression-
"TEHRAN (FNA)- Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, while in Shanghai, was given a sharp dressing-down by Russian President Vladimir Putin, a warning that Russia would not tolerate further Israeli attacks on Damascus and would respond."

body language
I meant to make a comment regarding the expression on Bibi's face. Body language experts maintain that there is only one asymmetric facial expression and that one is 'contempt'. I have also read advice to put as much distance between someone with a contemptuous expression and oneself as is possible.
The trouble is that when one such person has nuclear weapons at his disposal, one simply can't get far enough away.
Update - I updated the picture of bibi. I couldn't stand looking at that smirk any longer!
creepy
bibi is the expert on creepy expressions...
it remains to be seen whether Putin will actually do something, or what exactly would be the escalation required by israel to elicit a russian response on behalf of syria. "next time" israel drops a huge bomb on syria, russia will respond? how? with missiles? what is the proper response to an unprovoked bombing of major proportions (possibly a mini-nuke??)? an unprovoked bombing -- a complete act of war. i think we can all imagine the hue and cry if such a thing was dropped on tel aviv. i guess we are now one more unprovoked attack away from a russian response on israel? and then what? it is hard to tell sometimes what israel really wants? do they want to draw the attack onto themselves to justify the big meltdown? to drag everyone into wwiii? because we know that the moment a substantial target is bombed in israel, we are going to hear all about it and how "something must be done" blah blah blah. and that will be the beginning of the next big war in defense of poor little israel -- which also seems to be what they most dearly enjoy.
so i am having trouble imagining the range of effective russian responses, other than a military strike against some meaningful israeli target. and if that kicks of wwiii, would that not make certain people happy?
and sorry for all the questions! it's just very difficult to try to understand what these insane people might be trying to accomplish, other than their usual death cult sacrifices.
More questions...
"what is the proper response to an unprovoked bombing of major proportions (possibly a mini-nuke??)? an unprovoked bombing -- a complete act of war."
That is a good question.
As James suggests, Russia is not going to be provoked into WW3 and the zionists know this. They are angling to buy time (because they are losing) by dragging the Russians and Syrians into negotiations. So, assuming there was some good reason the Russians (or Syrians) didn't take this opportunity to send them back a message, what was it? Was it Kerry threatening escalation and the breakup of Syria? Was that enough to get the Russians to back down? Did they make some kind of back room deal?
I don't know the answer...just musing on your questions and adding some of my own.
mystery of putin
thanks. i wonder if we will finally found out the truth about putin now. for years he has *appeared* to be the only sane leader of a major power. i have wanted to believe it, except for the unlikelihood that this one guy would be allowed to Ruin Everything.
Surkov forced out by putin
this is an interesting development.

hard to say what it all means but it appears to reflect more infighting amongst the elites.

top * talent does not go to waste.
Hi APea
thanks for you comments, questions, info and links! I'll try and have a sensible response for you in my morning
One observation in the meantime, though. I was reading from your links such descriptions of Surkov as, "But Surkov was subtle. His approach was to buy people off or say nasty things about them behind their back, not to smash them in the face with a nightstick" and thinking this MO sounds very familiar.
And then I read, "Surkov started his career as a bodyguard and then business associate of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the oil magnate who became Russia’s richest man and a potential rival of Putin before being arrested and jailed by the Kremlin in 2003"
And this too, "During a meeting at the London School of Economics last weekend, Surkov denounced Russian law enforcement for what he called unjustified attacks on Skolkovo."
I have read that the London School of Economics is controlled by the same rich and famous family that financially backed Khodorkovsky in his huge Russian asset grab under Yeltsin.
This same family has a huge interest in israel and everything it does.
And this, "The move comes just one day after a meeting during which Putin scolded the government for not carrying out his orders." What's that about?
Gosh, could it have anything to do with israel attacking Syria and the lack of response from Russia?
yes
it's not for nothing he has a dossier at Russian Mafia...
WW3?
For whatever reason, israel did not want to start WW3 with their attack on Damascus. If they did, they would not have had Netanyahoo and Kerry in place in China and Russia to hose down and contain any reaction.
Israel wanted (and is getting) talks to involve the Syrian Govt in negotiating away concessions which they most definitely do not need to. The Syrian govt is about to defeat the NATO mercenaries who must be quite demoralised by now and about to abandon the battle field. They're mercenaries after all.
The israeli attack was, I'm sure amongst other things, meant to say to the mercs that "we've got your back. We are not abandoning you" which they will do so, of course, as soon as it's convenient.
In light of this, I'm dismayed that neither Syria nor Russia took the attack back to israel. Apparently they had no contingency plan for this eventuality. But then, maybe that is what the Surkov sacking is about.
What Putin did do was to significantly step up the arming of Syria (complete with Russian personnel) and say they will retaliate next time. It sounds like "yeah, yeah, always next time" but I don't think Putin has ever threatened to attack israel (or anyone else) before. If that is the case, then Putin's statement is very significant, indeed. I cannot recall Putin ever making a threat like that. Nevermind making a threat and not carrying it out.
Oh, he did once! He threatened to hang the Georgian president Saakashvilli up by his balls. It's a great pity he didn't.
How could Syria/Russia have retaliated? They could have taken out radar facilities in the Golan Heights, for instance. (It's under illegal israeli control but is not israel. It is Syrian territory and Syria is still in a 'state of war' with israel and has been ever since israel invaded the Golan Heights.)
But they would have needed to do it promptly after the israeli attack. This would be in accord with the "tit-for-tat" game theory which is the only proven effective way to deal with a dishonest adversary if you are having to deal with them over a long term.
For it's effectiveness, "tit-for-tat" requires two things - a quick response to tie cause and effect together in the adversary's (and everyone else's) mind. And it also requires a response that is slightly less in magnitude than the initialising attack so as not to escalate the conflict.
"it's just very difficult to try to understand what these insane people might be trying to accomplish, other than their usual death cult sacrifices."
Israel were trying to stave off the complete defeat of their terrorists in Syria which would put the Zionist plan for the eventual takeover of Russia and then China into reverse.
They needed to persuade Russia to force the Syrian govt to the negotiating table. They did this by threatening to turn Syria into utter chaos.
I believe this threat is a bluff because israel and the US are in a weakened position diplomatically, if not militarily, to pull that off. They do not want peace at any time, in any case, so my view is that Russia and Syria should in no way participate in any talks as they (and the Syrian people) can only lose from them.
thank you James
this is extremely helpful!
no worries, APea
I'm pleased it was useful.
You mentioned the possibility of the Zionist's sacrificing israel to start WW3. I think that is entirely possible but they are not ready to do that, imo, and to start WW3 yet.
The WW3 that I'm thinking of is the 'Christian world' against the 'Muslim world' but they need Russia in the 'fold' first for the 'Christian world' and they need the Caliphate in place also for the 'Muslim world'. The latter means subjugating Iran so that it will accept the Caliphate being run out of Turkey and therefore being a 'Sunni show'.
So there's much for the bankers to put in place yet and way too early to sacrifice israel. Israel is a gambit they would give up to gain a much larger territory - the whole world? That's the 'endgame'.
So they don't want to risk a war yet with Syria especially if it is being backed by Russia. And they are not about to let off any nuclear weapons in their own backyard either. Or risk a missile attack on Dimona. Can you imagine the panic of the chosen?!?!
They are very vulnerable at present, imho. I hope Russia and Syria see this.
i can imagine the panic yes...
so this is interesting because i don't see those pieces snapping into place anytime soon for the christian v muslim wwiii, and hopefully never. but the financial system will need to be replaced much sooner, and some big distraction on the level of a war would be useful for that. so this is like their vine swinging problem you wrote about way back when... ?
maybe this is what they would use a pandemic for instead of a war.
Nutty Yahoo and 'splainin
That Nutty Yahoo is sure an evil looking smirky fucker, eh? He is hard to look at!
Great post James! What you say makes a lot of sense because other than the perverted pleasure these zionists get from massive death and destruction, why would they take the chance on Israel's annihilation, which wiill surely happen if this escalates to a world war.
Sure glad I have you 'splainin things.

Cameron trotting off to Russia....
http://www.itar-tass.com/c32/730990.html
MOSCOW, May 8 (Itar-Tass) - The Kremlin confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin would meet British Prime Minister David Cameron on May 10.
“Of course, Syria will prioritise at the meeting due to the difficult situation,” presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Itar-Tass on Wednesday.
“The talks will also focus on bilateral relations,” Peskov added.
Speaking at the parliament, Cameron said he would leave for Russia to talks with Putin on the situation in Syria.
“The room for doubt about this continues to diminish,” Cameron told parliament. “There's an urgent need to start a proper negotiation to force a political transition and to bring this conflict to an end.”
http://www.businessinsider.com/russia-vladislav-surkov-fired-2013-5
A statement from the Kremlin is particularly revealing: "In accordance with paragraph D of Article 83 of the Russian Constitution, Vladislav Yurivich Surkov has been released from the office of deputy prime minister at his own request."
The Moscow Times notes that paragraph D of Article 83 allows the Russian President "the right to hire and fire deputy prime ministers on the recommendation of the prime minister," the Moscow Times reports."

Recent weeks have seen a certain political tension between Russia’s President Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev – but differences were put aside as they appeared together at this year’s Red Square Parade in Moscow."
http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=150207
Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed that his country will “do everything to strengthen global security.
In his speech at the parade marking the 68th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Putin laid a heavy emphasis on WWII as an eternal reminder of the horrors of war, and stressed Russia’s role in preserving peace and preventing new wars.
“We remember what the tragedy of war means, and we will do everything, everything that we can to ensure that no one ever dares unleash another one, to ensure that no one threatens our children, our home, our land,” Putin said, as cited by RIA Novosti.
May 9 is celebrated as Victory Day in Russia and many of the former Soviet Union states.
Victory in May 1945 was, Putin said, “an alarm bell that sounds the confirmation of life without war.”
His speech stressed that unity among the different peoples and ethnicities within Russiawas bound up with values such as patriotism, family, and loyalty to their roots and shared history.
“It was for these values that our people so valiantly fought” Putin said."

We almost got an entire 24 hour period that did not have news about imminent war rumblings out of Syria. Almost. Late last night WSJ reported about the civil war torn country (in which the rebels may or may not be using chemical weapons, but are backed by both Al Qaeda and the US government) again, this time on a leak by Israel having warned the US that Russians are "imminently" going to sell advanced ground-to-air missile systems to Syria "that would significantly boost the regime's ability to stave off intervention in its civil war." Supposedly this means that Israel would be unable to continue its unimpeded military incursions of Syrian sovereign airspace and blow stuff up at whim just because it feels like it, and for whatever pretext the IsrIaeli defense forces come up with.
Some details on what Syria is said to receive from Moscow via the WSJ:
Israel has warned the U.S. that a Russian deal is imminent to sell advanced ground-to-air missile systems to Syria, weapons that would significantly boost the regime's ability to stave off intervention in its civil war.
The package includes six launchers and 144 operational missiles, each with a range of 125 miles, according to the information the Israelis provided. The first shipment could come over the next three months, according to the Israelis' information, and be concluded by the end of the year. Russia is also expected to send two instruction teams to train Syria's military in operating the missile system, the Israelis say.
Naturally, there were no official statements on the matter, meaning interpretation of events is up to "objective", "unconflicted" media spin, the same way the US government is convinced it was the Assad regime using chemical weapons despite the UN's report claiming just the opposite."

" May 8, 2013.
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) does almost nothing to eradicate drug production in Afghanistan, and this drug-trafficking problem will likely worsen in the near future, Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated.
The NATO security mission - which will pull out of Afghanistan in 2014 - has failed to bring stability to the region, Putin said at a meeting of the Russian Security Council on Wednesday.
"There are all grounds to believe that we may face an escalation of the situation in Afghanistan in the short term," the president said.
"The foreign military contingent, whose backbone is American forces, has not achieved a breakthrough in the fight against terrorist and radical groups as yet. On the contrary, their activity has been particularly increasing lately," Putin explained.
There has also been "a drastic increase in drug production in the territory of Afghanistan and the creation of stable drug-trafficking routes to other countries, including - unfortunately - to Russia," he said. Putin also noted that the ISAF does little to address the problem, while Russia's proposals on the matter have so far been ignored.
International terrorist and radical groups in Afghanistan "do not conceal their plans to export instability and will try to carry sabotage over to the territories of neighboring states and Russia," Putin said, adding that this would lead to an increase in drug-trafficking, crime, fundamentalism and uncontrolled flows of refugees.
"In that connection, we must have a clear strategy of actions, which would take into consideration various scenarios for the development of the events," he stressed."
I keep thinking about that tidbit of news from awhile back where it was revealed Medevev had taken a billion in bribes to give free reign for drug smuggling into Russia while he was Pres. and how Putin began shutting that down as soon as he was elected.
Medvedev bribe
Here is that bit about Medvedev taking the billion dollar bribe.

Scambling Zionists
The really want these talks, don't they? And the don't like what Putin is saying and they need to get to him. He wouldn't talk with Kerry (as he is a foreign minister and not a president of prime minister as he is) so now they send Cameron who is a prime minister but below Obama in status. Calculations, calculations . . .
And they don't want those Russian missiles there in Syria either. But why weren't the missiles there already?
Medvedev
I've long thought that there must surely be a jewish dominated faction within the Russian govt and that Medvedev looked like their boy and was responsible for what happened in Libya.
Now with the attack on Syria (and the lack of immediate response from Russia) maybe Putin has the evidence he needs to be rid of this faction starting with Surkov
Bribes
Well, I was thinking of that billion dollars worth of bribes floating around in Russian Jewish political circles and what favors may have been bought with that money
Interesting you say that...
"And they don't want those Russian missiles there in Syria either. But why weren't the missiles there already?"
Interesting you say that. I was just musing on whether Surkov had something to do with those missiles not being in place when the Israeli attack came. And how that may have gone down.
From what I can gleam, there is some mystery over Surkov's background. He was born Aslambek Andarbekovich Dudaev in Chechyna and had the same last name as the assassinated Chechynian leader Dzhokhar Dudaev (the first president of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria). Who, coincidentally, has the same first name as that other recently famous Chechynian (of the Boston Bombing brothers) Dzokhar Tsarnaev.
I don't know that it means anything but it makes me wonder.
Surkov
Great sleuthing!
If Surkov was Khodorkovsky's bodyguard then he would have had to have credentials they could trust. Nothing beats family for credentials. And these people change their names the moment is it convenient
Thanks
Ta!
Good point
I was just musing on whether Surkov had something to do with those missiles not being in place when the Israeli attack came
good point! And Yes, a billion bucks buys a lot of favours

Very interesting bio information, APea
You have to wonder how this guy became Deputy PM.
I noted his involvement with United Russia which was run by the usual suspects and tied up with Browder and Magnitsky, if my memory serves me correctly. No wonder he was bitching about business law to the London School of Economics.
So how the hell does he end up in power at the Kremlin? He must have some very influential sponsors and it is reasonable, I think, to assume Medvedev is one of them.
The oligarchs ruled Russia under Yeltsin and there is no way their influence faded with his demise. Hopefully this is a purge under way.
I wonder what his wife does to earn nearly twenty times his salary?
i was wondering that too...
how he ended up so influential at the kremlin. there's a chart at TB, like an org chart showing "Putin's Kremlin Clans." it's a Stratfor image i found in 2011.
http://twelfthbough.blogspot.com/2011/09/positive-development.html
it's worth a look as surkov is on the same clan as medvedev, and *above* him, sort of like he "handles" that branch...? also in the surkov / medvedev branch: finance ministry, chechen president (cough), gazprom, economic ministry, Deripaska & Rusal, and the natural resource ministry. hmm.
the other clan is defense, presidential admin, the internal and external intelligence services, security council, interior and industry.
I was wondering that three
"I wonder what his wife does to earn nearly twenty times his salary?"
I was wondering that as well, so I did a little Googling on it. And here they are, the happy couple!
Surkov's 2nd and current wife, Natalia Dubovitskaya, is a former employee of Khodorkovski's Menatep bank. This is where Surkov met her. I didn't find anything about how she makes all her money but I think it has something to do with being married to a powerful person in the Kremlin. She is one of what has been dubbed by some as the 'Kremlin Ladies'. This has something to do with a book Surkov wrote in 2009 - a gangster fiction novel called 'Okolonolya ' (Around Zero) - under the name of Nathan Dubovitsky (Dubovistsky is the masculine form of Dubovitskaya) which is very close to his wife's name. I can't quite sort it all out but I think it is believed to be somewhat of an expose of the Russian Mafia's connections in the political/Kremlin circles.
Anyways, these gals: (http://www.sptimes.ru/archive/txt/feed.php?format=txt&issue_id=1465)
MOSCOW — As top officials this week declared their spouses’ income and property for the first time and, taking a cue from President Dmitry Medvedev, made the declarations public, it emerged that some of them — on paper, at least — are not the main breadwinners in their families. The Kremlin on Thursday released the tax declarations of presidential administration officials, following earlier disclosures of income and property declared by several senior officials, including Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Vladislav Surkov, the first deputy head of the presidential administration, who is often described as the Kremlin’s “gray cardinal,” earned 3.89 million rubles ($115,000) in 2008 but owns no property, according to his declaration published on the Kremlin’s web site. Meanwhile, Surkov’s wife, Natalya Dubovitskaya, earned 16.8 million rubles ($497,000) and owns two plots of land, a 761-square-meter house, an apartment and a 176-square-meter house for security guards, according to his declaration. Another senior official who earned far less than his wife is Medvedev’s aide Arkady Dvorkovich, who reported earnings last year of 3.12 million rubles ($92,000) and owns no car. His wife, Zumrud Rustamova, earned 27.2 million rubles ($808,000) and owns a Honda and a Lexus. Rustamova is deputy general director of metals firm Polimetall. The wife of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, Natalya Kvachyova, earned 1.4 million rubles ($43,000) more than her husband last year. She also owns three apartments and an Audi. A decree that Medvedev signed last month orders bureaucrats — beginning next year — to declare not only their income and assets but also those of their spouses and underage children, ostensibly to crack down on civil servants who hide suspiciously large personal fortunes by signing them over to spouses. Medvedev said last month that although the new law does not come into effect until next year, he would begin this year and release his declaration to the public. This week he made good on the promise, revealing an income of 4.1 million rubles ($124,000) in 2008 and seeing a wave of top officials follow suit. No senior official was so greatly out-earned by his wife as First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov, who declared 4.7 million rubles in earnings last year. His wife, Olga Shuvalova, earned 364.7 million rubles ($10.8 million), according to his declaration. The couple jointly owns a Jaguar, four Mercedes, a Zil and a Ford camper van. In a 2002 interview, Shuvalova told Profil magazine that she was trained as a lawyer but not working at her husband’s request. In 2007, national media reported that she had a diamond ring worth more than $100,000 stolen in a beauty salon.
It was rumored the 'Kremlin Ladies' were responsible for the sacking of Moscow's mayor Yury Luzhkov by Medvedev in 2010 because they were jealous of his wife Elena Baturina, the richest woman in Russia.
http://www.themoscowtimes.com/news/article/luzhkov-fired-over-loss-of-co...
http://rumafia.com/person.php?id=22
Surkov's first wife was Yulia Vishnevskaya (http://www.sptimes.ru/archive/txt/feed.php?format=txt&issue_id=1465).
In the bohemian and literary young provincial company met and quickly married a beautiful Yulia Vishnevskaya, who had wealthy parents and even their own apartment in a prestigious area of Moscow, where ever arranged bohemian parties. Julia herself was reputed to be the successor of the hippy movement and led an appropriate lifestyle. According to some sources, Julia is a distant relative of Boris Berezovsky.
Bohemian life at home wife with the money from her relatives just weaned Vladislav from regular work: Institute of Khimki far he has thrown. (Later, they parted. Now Julia and his son lives in London, rare in Russia).
The whole gang sound like they are a real nest of vipers. I have more coming on Surkov which I will add in another comment or two.
Update: Natalia Dubovitskaya, is a former secretary of Khodorkovski's Menatep bank.
paperback writer
Olga Shuvalov should write a book, too. "How to Earn $10m Without Working"
Good stuff, McJ. I'm looking forward to more.
speaking of paperback writing
Speaking of Paperback writing, I see from the Russian Mafia bio Apea linked that Surkov went from making jeans and writing 'romance' novels (porn? ) to the deputy pm and 3rd most powerful person in Russia. There could be a book there as well.
When a student, Surkov earned his living from making jeans that were hard-to-get at that time and from hack writing for enterprising publishers of Vladimir Gusinsky's team. He wrote romance novels full of teasing erotic scenes like "She put her arms around his knees and his hard penis --" They were very popular as during the Soviet period people could only read flat books censored by the Communist party.
I am getting to the rest of this but I keep getting distracted! I think I am going to have to help wash the car now.
Judith Miller's 'friend'
What was the name of that Whitehouse creep who wrote a somewhat pornographic novel?
Enjoy the cleansing experience

Are you talking about Scooter Libby? I forgot about that. He got the boot as well.
Bingo!
Bingo! Thank you, McJ. Now, how could I forget the name of such a literary legend?

More on Surkov
Some more interesting stuff on Surkov…
Surkov has reportedly distributed deliberate misinformation about the date and location of his birth. He says he lived the first five years of his life in Chechnya.
Born: 1962 or 1964
Name: Aslambek Andarbekovich Dudayev (says he changed his name after his father abandoned the family (taking his mother's maiden name) to Vladislav Surkov, Yurevich
Location: Chechen village of Duba-Yurt, Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Republic in the Shali district hospital
Surkov was born as Aslambek Dudayev to a Chechen father and ethnic Russian mother in the North Caucasus on Sept. 21, 1964. He only changed his name, adopting his mother's surname, in 1969 after his father abandoned the family and he and his mother moved to the Ryazan region.

Or...
According to information distributed by Surkov, he was born in 1964 in the village Solntsevo Lipetsk region, or in Moscow.
Mother: Surkov Zinaida Antonovna, May 31, 1935 of birth, nationality was Jewish
She arrived in Duba-Yurt village in 1959. This is where she met Surkov's father. (She came there from the Lipetsk region in Russia which is where Surkov reportedly claimed to be born at some point.)
Father: Andarbekom Danilbekovichem Dudayev
As far as I can tell he was a Chechynan

One of the chosen! Who else thinks of themselves like this? How stupid would it sound for me to say I am 1/2 Canadian and 1/2 Protestant?
One of his early patrons was the billionaire oligarch Mikhail Fridman of the Alfa Bank Group, whom he met at the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys. Surkov quickly took over as VP of Advertising after being employed by the Alpha Group Bank.
Here is some info on Surkov's early patron from Rumafia:
"Representatives of Israel beneficiaries of Genesis Philanthropy Group, established by Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman and his partners from Alfa Group, said that Alpha Group’s activities in Turkey (through Altimo company) are “unpleasant news” for them. They are disappointed with the fact that Fridman does business not only in Russia, but also in Turkey that Israel confronts with. They do accept money Fridman gives for their projects, but prefer not being mentioned in relation to their Russian sponsor.
According to the Russian Mafia (rumafia.com), Mikhail Friedman is not only Russian oligarh who makes profits in Turkey and donates to different projects in Israel. Take Telman Ismailov - he provides mountain Jews in Acre (Israel) with financial help for their religeous needs. Genesis Philanthropy Group cooperates with Jewish Agency (Sochnut). Only in 2008-2009 the Group donated over $2m to the program called Nativ. The program is implemented under auspices of the Sochnut is a training course that prepares Tzahal (Israel Defense Forces) soldiers to the conversion to Judaism (giyur). In September 2009 Jewish Agency and Genesis Philanthropy Group stroke a $6m agreement about mutual projects. Genesis Philanthropy Group also donates millions to the programmes of Yad Vashem memorial in Jerusalem. Right now Russian speaking young Jews are taking part in the summer camps in Israel, the mutual project of the foundation and Jewish Agency. http://www.rumafia.com/news.php?id=343
As well as reportedly being a distant relative of Boris Berezovsky, his first wife Yulia is the sister of the wife of Anatoly Chubais.
Interesting tidbit from Chubais bio: http://www.rumafia.com/person.php?id=100
n March 2005, Chubais was assassinated. [attempted assination?] On the way of the convoy of the head of RAO UES an explosive device went off, afterwards the cars were fired upon. Chubais himself was not injured. A retired colonel of the GRU, Vladimir Kvachkov and the paratroopers from the 45th Airborne Forces troupes Robert Yashin, Alexander Naidyonov and Ivan Mironov were accused of the attempt on Chubais. In the spring 2006 the case of the attempt on Chubais was transferred to the court. The jury in the case changed three times and on June 5, 2008, the jury brought in an acquittal. Kvachkov, Yashin and Naidenov were released from custody in the courtroom, Mironov’s case was separated and duration of detention extended. Chubais said that the decision of the jury was erroneous. In his view, the guilt of Kvachkov, Yashin and Naidenov was never in doubt. The press said that the attack was staged by Anatoly Chubais himself to accuse of it military men, leaders of national-patriotic movement, and a number of deputies of the Rodina party.
Surkov is also rumoured to be related by marriage to Vasily Yakemenko, head of the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, and former leader of Nashi.
Yakemenko Bio: http://www.rumafia.com/person.php?id=1320
In 1999-2000, Anisimov, as co-owner of Krasnoyarsk Aluminum Plant (KrAZ), did much to bring aluminum assets of the Chernykh brothers and of Anatoly Bykov into the ownership of Roman Abramovich and Boris Berezovsky who used the mentioned assets to establish the holding Russian Aluminium (Rusal).
Still more to come on his relationship to authoritarian Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.
Very interesting info, McJ
Very interesting info, McJ
So Surkov is in thick with the jewish oligarchs. Long history of it. Being 'half jewish' would gain him entrée into that commercial world.
I'm wondering what gained him entrée into the political world? And at the highest level?
The oligarchs spreading their money around for him? If so, he would owe them big time and he would have been an extremely useful tool for them (and israel).
The program is implemented under auspices of the Sochnut is a training course that prepares Tzahal (Israel Defense Forces) soldiers to the conversion to Judaism (?) (giyur).
What's this about I wonder? Are they training non-jews? And is it connected to this just below it, in your quote, McJ?
Right now Russian speaking young Jews are taking part in the summer camps in Israel, the mutual project of the foundation and Jewish Agency.
Are they training terrorists here? Could they be Gentiles and could they end up (back) in Chechnya?
Just speculating, of course.
marriage, chechnya and terrorists
So Surkov is in thick with the jewish oligarchs. Long history of it. Being 'half jewish' would gain him entrée into that commercial world.
Well, I was trying to establish that first before we moved on. I am thinking that Surkov's marriage to his first wife got him connected into all the right financial circles. This launched him on his way from blue jean maker and porn writer into the top echelons of the Kremlin power structure. And it is of interest that she and Surkov's son are now living in London from whence the action is being directed. I haven't had time to check her out but I wouldn't be surprised if she too, is one of the chosen.
I'm wondering what gained him entrée into the political world? And at the highest level?
The oligarchs spreading their money around for him? If so, he would owe them big time and he would have been an extremely useful tool for them (and israel).
Yes indeed he would!
"Are they training terrorists here? Could they be Gentiles and could they end up (back) in Chechnya?
Just speculating, of course."
I guess you have taught me well, Yoda cause I was wondering what that was all about as well.
And we are getting to Chechnya. I actually think this may be going somewhere (??) if I can ever put all this info together.
Good luck with it. Just from
Good luck with it. Just from the little I see, there are lots of characters with multiple connections and multiple schemes and scams going on, that it is hard to see the dominant thread through the maze.
But all roads seem to lead back to the oligarchs and israel and behind them both, no doubt, the Rothschilds. You wonder how they keep up with it all themselves?
Speaking of terrorists and
Speaking of terrorists and Chechnya, what was this all about?
"Several Russian policymakers and others have suggested that the August 2008 Russia-Georgia conflict contributed to increased instability in the North Caucasus. Russian analyst Viktor Nadein-Raevsky has claimed that "external forces and the so-called Wahhabi underground ... aiming to weaken Russia and to sever the Caucasus from it laid great hopes on Georgia’s attack.” These groups “had planned a large-scale offensive in the Russian Caucasus in the wake of Georgia’s aggression. When it proved to be a failure these forces changed tactics,” and launched terrorist attacks instead.16 Dagestani President Mukhu Aliyev also asserted in late November 2009 that the activity of foreign terrorists had increased in the republic since August 2008. According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, there was a “lull in violence” in the North Caucasus during the Russia-Georgia conflict but, "following the conflict, the level of violence in the North Caucasus rose sharply, particularly in Ingushetia."
Who was training these Whahabbi's? The external forces? Who were they and what did they contribute towards this planned large scale offensive? How/why did they know about the Georgian attack? Is this why there was a "lull in violence" during the Russia-Georgia conflict? Was it coordinated and they were massed for the offensive to coincide with a Georgian win?

Israeli Prime Minister to visit Russia
20:42 May 11, 2013 Interfax
Russian presidential press officer Dmitry Peskov has confirmed that Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu plans to visit Russia next week.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Saturday that Netanyahu plans to visit Russia for negotiations in the next two weeks. According to the paper, the main issues of the upcoming negotiations will be the supply to Syria of Russian S-300 air defense systems and the Iranian nuclear program.
The issue was raised by British officials in the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and British Prime Minister David Cameron in Sochi.
A source in the Russian delegation told Interfax Russia has stated its position on the matter. "Everything is clear here: there is no embargo on the supplies, and we are fulfilling all contracts signed earlier, that is, we are fulfilling all our obligations," he said. The source reiterated that "any weapons supplied [to Syria] under previous contracts are purely defensive."

Judging by the look of
Judging by the look of disgust on Putin's face at their meeting last year, I don't think Booboo will get far
excellent info
putin is really throwing his weight around. hot damn. i have to say i have been growing skeptical of him so this is rather hopeful news.
Hahaha
Hahaha - you changed the picture - couldn't stand looking at that one of him, eh?
You're right, McJ. I couldn't
You're right, McJ. I couldn't stand it any longer
Just wanted to say....
I don't think Syria could realistically retaliate even if they wanted to
They would be obliterated
And that would be that.
I mean missiles and hellfire would rain down on that country, massive casualties
it would be devastation
And when the burning was done...thinking scorched earth here
israel, qatar and all the other vulture capitalists would pick apart the carcass
and the allies (you know, the "good guys"?) have done this on other occasions
think korea, japan and germany
Tiny syria would be an easy target
As for missiles from Russia in Syria there were news stories that the Iskander was present, beyond that I can't say for sure what else if anything.
I believe Russia has been keeping them supplied or they would long be out of munitions and they are not
I also think and have read that fighters from Iran and Russia are present on the ground
Can't say if it is true, but some things I have read have certainly led me to suspect this
Let me give you and example
The internal opposition in Syria, the one we rarely hear about or read about made a plea for all fighters to leave Syria so that Syrians could sort this out for themselves
All fighters from elsewhere fighting for and against the government..
I was reading at a military forum about the possibility of Russian special forces being present
Same for Iranian fighters..
What I find most difficult about this whole situation is overall
Russia doesn't play everything out via the media
The US does.
So, it is always more difficult to get a read on Russia
Me blathering....
Ok, I am going to be quiet now )
Syrian response
It is worth remembering that tiny Hizbollah defeated an israeli incursion into Lebanon a few years ago and caused them to withdraw from Lebanon some years before that. Syria has had more time and far more resources than Hizbollah to prepare their defence and ability to strike back.
Israel then had to attack Gaza a year or so later to assure the israelis that they are still strong and still kill people with impunity. But it is an illusion.
My point is that israel cannot afford to fight a serious war against someone who can fight back - someone who can fire serious missiles into israel. Social order would collapse pretty instantly. Israel and israelis are bullies and, as such, are cowards. They, and the US only take on countries who cannot defend themselves. (Iraq did not defend itself seriously because the Iraqi generals had been conned into not resisting having been promised a place in the 'new iraq'. That ploy will never work again in another country)
True, israel and the US could launch an all-out surprise aerial attack on Syria and obliterate the country but at what cost? Clearly a cost they are not prepared to pay otherwise they would have already done it.
They did it to Libya but that was because Libya was not able to defend itself. It did not update its air defences having believed their 'friends' Tony Blair and at least one of the Rothschilds that there was no threat from US/NATO. (that's not going to work again, either)
The other thing with Libya is that Russia (while Medvedev was president and in charge of foreign relations) had basically said it would not intervene.
If Russia is seen to be active in Syria's response to an unprovoked attack such as this last one, is the US going to automatically attack Russia in return? I don't think so. Look how the US/NATO abandoned Georgia when the Russians (under Putin's presidency) responded to their attacks on South Ossetia. There were israeli and US special forces involved in the Georgian attack yet they were left to fend for themselves.
Michael Ledeen famously said something like "every few years we (the US) have to pick up some little country and throw them against the wall to show everyone we mean business".
Well, the fact is that is all they can do without risking injury to themselves, risking their image as omnipotent. An image on which their power rests.
Report Warns Israel of Hezbollah's Crushing Missile Power
http://www.sott.net/article/261783-Report-warns-Israel-of-Hezbollahs-cru...
Report Warns Israel of Hezbollah's Crushing Missile Power
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Lebanese Resistance Movement Hezbollah has all parts of Israel within the reach of its long-range missiles and it can surprise Tel Aviv with its high capabilities, the Israeli media said.
"The Tel Aviv-based newspaper 'Israel Hayom' in an article titled 'Hezbollah 2013' stressed Hezbollah's high combat preparedness against Israel, saying that Hezbollah has 300 long-range missiles which bring all the occupied territories within the reach of its missiles.
It claimed that Hezbollah has an arsenal of 60,000 missiles posing direct and real threat to Israel.
The paper wrote that Hezbollah has 5,000 missiles with the range of 250 km.
It said that Hezbollah can surprise Israel with its drones and take future conflicts to inside the occupied territories.
The newspaper quoted Israeli analyst Shimon Shabira as saying that Hezbollah has between 20,000 to 40,000 strong men, including skilled airborne personnel and well-trained divers.
Shabira noted that Hezbollah has thousands of reserve forces who are ready to join the resistance movement if needed.
Israel Hayom said if Hezbollah could fire hundreds of missiles with 300kg payloads at Israel in 2006, it can now fire ten times more on the occupied territories.
The paper quoted Israel's former intelligence chief, Amos Yadlin, as saying that Israel should consider Hezbollah's missile capabilities as serious."
In December, French journalist and author Thierry Meyssan said that Hezbollah's military capacities and capabilities against Israel have grown 400 times since the Tel Aviv's 33-day war on Lebanon back in 2006.
In an article published in the Voltaire.net, Meyssan wrote the Israeli intelligence services have acknowledged that the Lebanese resistance movement's capacity for bombing Israel's main cities has multiplied by four hundred.
He said that in the event of a regional war, the Israeli territory would be devastated in just few months.
The journalist noted that the new balance of power between Israel and the resistance groups becomes apparent by comparing Israel's wars against Hezbollah and Palestinians from 2006 to 2012. It is quite evident that Israel's military might has considerably diminished since 2006.
.....
He further noted "if we put this capacity into perspective with that of Hezbollah from Lebanon, this means that all of Israel" is now within striking range.
Consequently, the Israeli defenses, based on "strategic depth" are now obsolete. "Israel can no longer be defended."
"Israel can no longer be defended."
So why are the israelis broadcasting the news that they can no longer defend themselves? If they could no longer defend themselves, one would think that they would want to keep that news quiet. No?
Perhaps they are lying! It would be for certain that they are exaggerating. If so what are they setting up with their story?
One possibility is the excuse for a massive unprovoked "preemptive strike" against Hizbollah in Lebanon. History shows they are the wars of choice for israel.
Another might be a false flag attack. Another favourite! This time in the "occupied territories" that get mentioned repeatedly in the story. .
Or both. Or something else. Perhaps they want a whole new missile defence system provided by the US or Germany for free to negate the S300 missiles coming to Syria shortly.
But whatever it is, it will be deceitful and bloody in the end.
What a surprise
"Perhaps they are lying! "
Wouldn't that be a surprise!
My first thought was they are planning some kind of attack on Hezbollah. Or perhaps, creating an excuse to overtly rachet up whatever destabilizing efforts they have going on in Lebannon. And I like your more free stuff for Israel idea! Like you say, whatever it is, it won't be good.
Look up in the sky ....
Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
No, it's a drone.
Our drone?
No, it's theirs. ... No, it's ours! I mean theirs!! Watch out!!!
Gotta love that ole asymmetrical thinking. Fascists really don't come off very well when confronted with creative thinking.
Pepe and the gong show
It is like a gong show! Not a very funny one, tho.
This is a RT interview with Pepe Escobar on the Israeli attacks. He gets some of this wrong in that he characterizes it as Israel acting on the US behest (maybe that is quibbling on my part?). He believes it is best there is/was no response from Syria because they would then be buying into the US/Israeli provocation to escalate the conflict into a regional war. Perhaps he needs to talk to you, James and you can explain that tit for tat thing to him. I still like Pepe tho, there is just something about his personality and delivery that always makes me smile.
I can't get the embed code with my YouTube IPad App. Here is the link to it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s64Z1X_6ito&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Pepe and things that are almost right
I noticed he didn't mention Russia which is a glaring omission even in such a short interview. Russia is what would make tit-for-tat certainly work. Without Russia, Pepe (and lots of other observers) are probably right. But with (Putin's) Russia in the mix, as it most definitely is, I think I'm right - in my never humble opinion, of course! (Though I feel more than a little grandiose to be making such pronouncements with so many lives at stake)
He might have mentioned that israel's air defences are (necessarily) fully integrated with NATO's which explains why israel MUST, out of self preservation, let the US/NATO know and gain approval for anything israel does. People would really understand the 'why' then.
He might have said, "No, it's not self defence at all" before moving on to say that israel's attack is an "act of war", but perhaps I'm quibbling now
Laugh a minute
"I noticed he didn't mention Russia which is a glaring omission even in such a short interview."
I was wondering if that was because he was on Russian TV.
These guys are a laugh a minute!

"On Monday, Israeli Tourism Minister Uzi Landau publicly accused KRussia, by virtue of its arms supplies, of "promoting instability in the Middle East."
"Anyone who provides weaponry to terror organizations is siding with terror," he said, The Associated Press reported."
The tourism minister?
"Theodore Karasik, an expert at the Dubai-based INEGMA think tank, said by e-mail that while Netanyahu and Putin were likely to focus on arms sales and Syria's future, "There is a great urgency for Tel Aviv and Moscow to see eye-to-eye now that Israel feels it can attack Syrian targets at will."
OMG
And then it's Austin Powers, international man of mystery, captured in prime time on Russian TV.

"Russia's Federal Security Service announced Tuesday it had detained a CIA officer during an attempt to recruit a Russian agent, saying the American had brought lots of cash, technical devices and "appearance disguising means".
...
"Fogle was taken to FSB headquarters and then delivered to officials at the American Embassy, the statement said."
http://www.latimes.com/news/world/worldnow/la-fg-wn-russia-american-cia-...
"Ryan Christopher Fogle, the third secretary of the American Embassy in Moscow, was held overnight before being handed back to U.S. authorities Tuesday, according to the Federal Security Service, the Russian intelligence agency known as the FSB. He was carrying a large amount of money, technology, written instructions for the Russian recruit and appearance-changing equipment, the FSB website said.
The agency claimed that Fogle was working for the CIA. The CIA declined to comment, Associated Press reported.
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/world-news/russia-catches-us-spy-...
"In the video, an off-camera Russian voice says: “At 11.30pm, this man, who says he is American diplomat Ryan Fogle, made a call to an employee of [sound muted] and offered him to spy in the interests of the US.” The voice then goes on to say that the person Mr Fogle wanted to recruit was engaged in counter-terrorism in Russia’s North Caucasus region, which includes Chechnya and Dagestan, which have links to the Boston bombing suspects. The agent refused, but Mr Fogle called him again, insisting on a meeting and a cash offer of €100,000."
http://rt.com/news/fsb-detain-cia-agent-253/
"Former assistant secretary of state Jon Alterman told RT the timing of the incident was “strange” in light of the upcoming international conference on Syria spearheaded by Moscow and Washington.
“It clearly will have an effect on the talks. I don’t think it tells us anything new about US-Russian relations. What is strange is the timing, because when it comes to catching spies – if this even was a spy – you get to choose when you take action. And the decision to act immediately before the summit seems to me calculated to affect the summit,” he argued."
Hmmm...
You're right, McJ
what a joke. Welcome to the wonderful world of psychopathic reasoning aka chutzpah.
"On Monday, Israeli Tourism Minister Uzi Landau publicly accused KRussia, by virtue of its arms supplies, of "promoting instability in the Middle East."
Standard reversing roles. Classic projection. I expect it was to put the Russians on the defensive. Psychopaths know this sort of insanity is upsetting for normal people even when they know exactly what is afoot.
Another example is Jon Alterman saying there is nothing unusual going on here except for the timing which is all to do with the Russians, of course. Hahaha, amazing. Black is white.
Oh, how i long for the day that these dangerous lunatics are hosed off the face of the earth
Nutty Yahoo comes home empty handed
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/05/19/304267/fox-news-is-rabidly-prois...
NOT surprisingly, NuttyYahoo came home empty handed from Russia. I am unable to watch the Press TV video at this link so I don't know what Fox News footage they are discussing. (I don't know if it is because it just won't play on my IPad or because it is not available or no longer available?? - I will check later when I get to another computer- right now duty calls....).
Press TV has conducted an interview with Mark Glenn with the Crescent and Cross Solidarity Movement from Idaho
"Press TV: Tell us the significance of this footage. First of all why do you think that Fox News actually showed it?
Glenn: Well Fox News is a rabidly pro-Israel news site. There is nothing that they run that is not favorable to Israel and so we have to assume that this is part of that strategy.
The way that I read this, being released at this time, is that it is a provocation to try and to push (Syrian President) Assad into doing something; some type of outward military action against Israel. Or at the very least it is a way of trying to paint him as an impotent leader, who can’t protect his own borders.
We have to assume that this is not the first time that this has happened, so this fact that Fox News has decided to release this at this time, we have to plug this into the equation particularly in light of what took place this week with (President) Putin of Russia saying that he is going to go ahead, Russia is going to go ahead with their offers to Syria to supply them with the necessary defensive missile technology.
So, I see this as an attempt on the part of Israel… to provoke Assad into doing something that would then maybe change the balance of things right now; since Israel is looking so bad in the eyes of the entire world.
Press TV: So, you think basically what it is, is perhaps a ploy to, we won’t say ploy because they appear to be actually involved in this Syrian situation, but basically trying to do something, as you said, to make Assad react and perhaps bring Washington in directly?
Glenn: Exactly, this latest situation between Putin and (Israeli Prime Minister) Netanyahu has been absolutely devastating for Netanyahu. He came home from Russia empty handed. He is not going to get his war, the Americans are unwilling to go in there (Syria) because they understand now that there are much bigger players involved in this, namely a nuclear armed Russia, who has made it clear, they have drawn a line in the sand and they said that Syria is not going to go the way of Libya or Iraq.
So, I see this as Netanyahu’s attempt to try to change the balance of things, change the narrative here in such as way, where the Americans may be forced to actually go in and to use military action against Assad.
Like I said, Fox News is rabidly pro-Israel, so for them to be releasing something at this time we have to assume that this is being done with the blessings all the way at the top of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Press TV: In general with, as you said, Russia being very adamant that they are not going to backup off of this issue. What do you think the next move is going to be by the United States and its allies? Are they going to back down or do you see them just trying another strategy, still trying to bring down the Syrian government?
Glenn: Well I don’t see what else the United States can do. The Russians have now made it clear that they are not going to allow, as I said, Syria to go the way of Iraq and Afghanistan.
At this point the question is what is Israel going to do? We have, you know. Netanyahu is a wild animal in a suit and he is not just capable, but liable to do anything to get his way in this case.
So, what are we going to see? We are going to see an attack on another American ship, like we saw with the USS Liberty in 1967, are we going to see another false flag attack; a bomb going off in the United States that is then blamed on Syria?
That is the real question mark. What is the United States going to do in the aftermath of some desperate move by Benjamin Netanyahu? "
The video shows some captives
The video shows some captives being executed, presumably by NATO mercs. The video then goes on to show troop and tank movements which again are presumably israeli soldiers over the Syrian border together with some explosions filmed at night.
Israelis have, no doubt, gone along with the outrageous provocations of a series of israeli govts because they believed that the US would always come to their aid, no matter what. They must be beginning to rethink that which must be a good thing.
Perhaps one upshot from all this is that the israeli public become more in touch with reality and this, in turn, has some restraining effect on their rabid govt.
Thanks James. I still haven't
Thanks James. I still haven't managed to get to my other computer - busy day.
"Perhaps one upshot from all this is that the israeli public become more in touch with reality and this, in turn, has some restraining effect on their rabid govt."
Let's hope so. It's about time they woke up!!
plot thickens?
via Chamberlin's blog, israel telling assad that if they decide to strike again, don't bother to retaliate. as reported by Ynet.
http://therearenosunglasses.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/israel-preparing-ne...
shorter: israel will act to stop Hezbollah, because Hezbollah can destabilize the entire region. so israel will do that first thank you very much -- calling high hosey on all the choice middle east destabilization rights. and assad better not do anything about it, either, or else he will forfeit his regime. which he would do by not responding to another israeli strike anyway.
i thought israel needed to be concerned about possibly hitting some russians in syria, lest they call down a russian response on their heads.
is this just more bluffing? anyone?
The next attack
Penny thinks the next attack will come from Turkey and I agree (assuming there is another attack). Israel is threatening Russia and Syria to hurry them to the negotiating table and providing a smoke screen for Turkey at the same time.
Obama may have told Erdogan, "Don't worry, Russia hasn't warned you yet. They will do that first so you are free to attack at least once.
Besides, we'll come to your aid if they do attack back."
It won't happen. They'll leave them high and dry.
Bush told Saakisvili that the US would come to his aid! Remember how Saakashvili was squealing about their non appearance?
things that don't end well
Obama seems to be coming under great pressure himself lately. so is Erdogan.
Russian warships enter Mediterranean
Perhaps this will help Russia's negotiating position during them talks the US/Israel are so keen on.
Russian Pacific Fleet Warships Enter Mediterranean For First Time In Decades, To Park In Cyprus
Earlier we reported that the US has now officially landed a Marine force in Israel as well as an assault ship, in a visit that the US Navy promptly assured "is not associated with, nor a reaction to, any world events." It seems we were not the only ones who read this justification somewhat skeptically: so did Russia. And in a historic event, the Russian Pacific fleet, for the first time in decades, crossed the Suez Canal and entered the Mediterranean, direction Cyprus' port of Limasol (hi Cyprus - Russia will be arriving shortly) in what is now the loudest implied warning to the US and Israel amassing military units across Syria's border that Russia will not stand idly by as Syria is used by the Israeli "Defense" Forces for target practice. “The task force has successfully passed through the Suez Channel and entered the Mediterranean. It is the first time in decades that Pacific Fleet warships enter this region,” Capt. First Rank Roman Matron said. This is what is also known as dropping hints, loud and clear.
The group, including the destroyer Admiral Panteleyev, the amphibious warfare ships Peresvet and Admiral Nevelskoi, the tanker Pechenga and the salvage/rescue tug Fotiy Krylov left the port of Vladivostok on March 19 to join Russia’s Mediterranean task force.
The task force currently includes the large anti-submarine ship Severomorsk, the frigate Yaroslav Mudry, the salvage/rescue tugs Altai and SB-921 and the tanker Lena from the Northern and Baltic Fleets, as well as the Ropucha-II Class landing ship Azov from the Black Sea Fleet. The task force may be enlarged to include nuclear submarines, Navy Commander Admiral Viktor Chirkov said last Sunday.
Shore leave for a whole lot of submarines just a few hundred kilometers from Syria? Surely. From Rian.
“The task force has successfully passed through the Suez Channel and entered the Mediterranean. It is the first time in decades that Pacific Fleet warships enter this region,” Capt. First Rank Roman Martov said.
The Defense Ministry said in April Russia has begun setting up a naval task force in the Mediterranean, sending several warships from the Pacific Fleet to the region. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said in March a permanent naval task force in the Mediterranean was needed to defend Russia’s interests in the region.
A senior Defense Ministry official said the Mediterranean task force's command and control agencies will be based either in Novorossiysk, Russia, or in Sevastopol, Ukraine.
Admiral Vladimir Komoyedov, head of the parliamentary defense committee, previously told RIA Novosti that the Mediterranean task force should be comprised of 10 warships and support vessels as part of several tactical groups tasked with attack, antisubmarine warfare and minesweeping.
The Soviet Union maintained its 5th Mediterranean Squadron from 1967 until 1992. It was formed to counter the US Navy's 6th Fleet during the Cold War, and consisted of 30-50 warships and auxiliary vessels.
It appears that the squadron is being reincarnated and quite rapidly at that.
It also appears that the two key naval forces in the Mediterranean are finally starting to position themselves for what may soon be a face off."
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-05-16/us-amphibious-assault-ship-kear...
Two weeks ago, when we reported on the news of yet another aerial assault by Israel on Syria, we said that "while speculation a US-led escalation is ripe, the lack of any US naval support (as shown by Stratfor's naval update map from May 2) off the coast of Syria likely makes any immediate war is hardly likely, or that Israel will be on its own for at least the foreseeable future." Today this is no longer the case, following news that the US amphibious assult ship, LHD 3 and its cargo of the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, have arrived in Eilat, Israel for a "reguarly scheduled post visit." Amusingly, the US Navy was very quick to point out that "This visit is not associated with, nor a reaction to, any world events." Just purely accidental then.

The devil or the deep blue fleet?
The Russians in Cypress are going to be a lot closer to the action than the US marines in Eilat. The Russians will be even closer with some of their fleet docked at Tartus in Syria, which seems likely to me, with the rest of the fleet offshore guarding their position. And who knows where their nuclear subs will be?
This Russian fleet will be uncomfortably close for Turkey's so-called leadership.
I wonder what will prove to be more persuasive for Erdogan; the sounds of Obama's silken words of assurance in his ear or the visuals of Putin's warships locked and loaded off the coast before him (and the thought of the pissed off Turkish public behind him).
meat in the sandwich
Seems to me Erdogan's Turkey is kind of like a piece of meat trapped in a Russian Rye bread sandwich - with a Russian fleet parked in Cyprus and at Tartus on one side and the Black Sea Fleet on the other. And then, Putin just called that surprise military drill in the Black Sea late this last March.
"Different news outlets report that at least 30 Russian warships are taking part in this mob flash war game. According to this website there are 42 active Russian warships in the Black Sea Fleet. If 30 ships are really taking part in the exercise this makes %70 of the whole Black Sea fleet."
Erdogan must be feeling a little squeezed right about now. And the Turkish public doesn't appear to be nearly as docile, uninformed nor easy to fool as some others.
"Chaos in Turkey as police use tear gas and water cannons to put down rioters protesting over Syria"
And it has to be a bit of a concern for the chosen ones.
Exactly. Erdogan's and the
Exactly. Erdogan's and the Turkish military's chickens are coming home to roost.
I think the actions of both sides point to the next move, should it eventuate, will come from Turkey and not israel.
Turkey's leaders have been receiving all sorts of largesse, no doubt, over the years from Washington and Tel Aviv and have been peddled visions of a greater Turkic Empire stretching into the Caucasus and beyond and all the while Russia has continued to trade with them and has apparently adopted a benign attitude towards them.
The Turks may have thought that because they control the Bosphorus they have the whip hand over Russia. With Russian war ships either side of that shipping channel and their guns now pointed not at the channel but at Istanbul that straddles it, it all of a sudden may look very different to them.
So now we have another 'sandwich' with Turkey facing the combined jaws of the Russian fleets before them and the Zionists prodding them from behind saying, "we're right behind you" and Erdogan now thinking, "exactly!"

Writing on the wall and unannounced visit
The latest breaking chapter in the fictional tale of the Boston Bombers, Dumb and Dumber, is about the 'writing on the wall' of the boat, supposedly left by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. It has been be one of the stupider stories I have read. Good thing he had a writing instrument on him, eh? Or perhaps, he used the blood from his alleged multiple gunshot wounds? I don't know because I haven't followed it that closely. Presumably, he 'thought he was a gonner' so, calling on his not so good high school grammar, he composed this:
“The [Boston] bombings were in retribution for the U.S. crimes in places like Iraq and Afghanistan [and] that the victims of the Boston bombing were collateral damage, in the same way innocent victims have been collateral damage in U.S. wars around the world. Summing up, that when you attack one Muslim you attack all Muslims.”
"Summing Up" ? Really?
If you care to read Ray McGovern reinforcing the "brothers did it" meme while spinning about Dzhokhar's motives it is here.
What caught my eye in his article was the bit about the Torturer in Chief, John Brennan, being educated by the Catholic Brothers. So, I checked it out. It predictivly led me to an even more absurd article confirming that Brennan did indeed get a Jesuit education.
"Brennan’s views were shaped by his Roman Catholic upbringing and occasional forays into just war theory. He, too, has a legal bent of mind, perhaps the product of his Jesuit education and the many years he spent as a CIA analyst. “John’s told me that he thinks there are a lot of similarities between lawyers and analysts,” says a former colleague, explaining Brennan’s affinity for attorneys."
Well, I can agree his mind is bent, most likely from being schooled by those masters of torture and deception, the Jesuits and hanging out with lawyers - which would explain a lot of his actions and behavior.
Anyway, I took a long way around to get to this tidbit of news about Brennan making an unannounced visit to Israel.
"An Israeli defense official says the head of the American CIA spy agency has made an unannounced visit to Israel.
The official says CIA chief John Brennan met Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon. He did not disclose other details.
The official spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the visit with reporters.
Brennan's trip comes amid Israeli concerns about weapons transfers from Syria to the Lebanon's militant Hezbollah.
Truly absurd
The unprincipled, writing for the incurious, excusing the unscrupulous engaging in the indefensible.
They accuse him of having supported torture at the Bush-era CIA and, more recently, of having orchestrated Obama’s legally dubious war of drone strikes and targeted killings.
There is nothing legally dubious about this murder at all. First they minimise, then they dismiss.
During the meeting, both men talked about the need for a “surgical” approach in dealing with terrorism, according to a source familiar with their conversation. Brennan likened it to a doctor treating cancer. “You need to attack the metastasizing disease without destroying the surrounding tissue,” he said.
First they de-humanise them; rob them of life with their speech, then rob them of their life with their bombs.
And befitting their lawyerly instincts, they would, time and again over the years, search for ways to establish rules, standards, and constraints—to ensure that the war on terror was ultimately governed by laws, not men.
As if laws are higher than men i.e. God! I guess we don't need to question these 'laws' then. Truly absurd, as you say, McJ.
"An Israeli defense official says the head of the American CIA spy agency has made an unannounced visit to Israel."
Well, it's not 'unannounced' any longer! I always think these face to face meetings are when at least one party is selling big lies to the other and/or when they can't risk electronic eavesdropping. Not good, ever.
Sums it up
"The unprincipled, writing for the incurious, excusing the unscrupulous engaging in the indefensible."
That sums it up nicely, James! I actually couldn't read the whole thing. I quit about half way through.
"I always think these face to face meetings are when at least one party is selling big lies to the other and/or when they can't risk electronic eavesdropping. Not good, ever."
Which party do ya figure would be selling the biggest lies?
I agree, not good!
The Puppetmaster
The puppetmaster is never part of the (visible) show. Obama is conspicuous by his (relative) absence in all these to-ing and fro-ings; to my mind anyway. Of course, Barry has his string-pullers and it is these people who are directing matters rather than Tel Aviv, imnho. We are playing for big stakes now.
I think this is all because Russia has squared up to NATO and the US wants to be able to back away without losing face should Russia follow through. (Georgia on my mind)
So the US is busy pushing other countries out into the traffic, to see if Russia will stop for them, and telling all sorts of lies in the process.
Thanks :)
Thanks. That makes sense.
"So it is busy pushing other countries out into the traffic, to see if Russia will stop for them..."
You are so funny.

I actually couldn't read the whole thing. I quit about half way through. Barf!
Yeah, it's a creepy article.
Israeli logic
The logic is mind boggling. Israel is helping the jihadi rebels by arming them and attacking Syria so they can get rid of Assad. And if the rebels are successful and Assad is ousted that then means Israel will have to attack Syria to prevent the rebel jihadists from getting the weapons.
"Israel is prepared to attack Syria to prevent advanced weapons reaching jihadi rebels or Hezbollah in Lebanon if President Bashar Assad is toppled, Israel's air force chief said on Wednesday.
Major-General Amir Eshel also said Israelis should brace for a protracted and painful conflict should their forces engage in combat with Hezbollah or its main backer, Iran.
"If Syria collapses tomorrow, we will need to take action to prevent a strategic looting of advanced weaponry," he told the Fisher Institute for Air & Space Studies near Tel Aviv.
"We have to be ready for any scenario, at a few hours' notice," Eshel said.
He assumed fighting could escalate on to three fronts at once and require the Israeli air force to employ "the full spectrum of its might".. [Well, that is, if we start the fights.]
Israeli warplanes have attacked Syria at least three times this year to destroy what intelligence sources described as advanced anti-aircraft and ground-to-ground missile caches in transit to Hezbollah. The Israelis also worry that Assad may lose control of Syria's chemical warheads stocks.
Beset by the more than two-year-old insurgency, Assad has not retaliated for the air strikes. But some Israeli experts worry his forbearance could wear out - especially if he believes new Russian-supplied air defences will let him fend off his militarily superior foe.
Eshel said the most formidable of the Russian systems, the S-300, was "on its way" to Syria and that Israel could not afford to see its air superiority dented given what he predicted would be the need to hit the other side intensively.
"If we want to prevail within a few days, we need to use a lot of firepower, and quickly," he said. "Air superiority is critical, and we must contend with a new generation of capabilities."
Israelis would be mistaken to anticipate a repeat of their lopsided recent clashes with Palestinian guerrillas in Gaza, or their 2006 war with Hezbollah in south Lebanon, Eshel told Reuters on the sidelines of the conference.
"People are looking for a knock-out, for things to be surgical and sterile, but they won't be. The homefront will be hit, no matter how much we defend it," he said, referring to possible missile attacks on the Israeli interior from Syria, Hezbollah and Iran.
"If we go to war in the north, we can win, without a doubt, but it will be something entirely new. No one should say, 'Guys, we are fighting without pressure, so we will finish this story in two months.' It's far more delicate than that."

It's mind-numbing, isn't it?
It's mind-numbing, as you indicate, McJ. And that 's the point! (which is the perfect entree for a hobby-horse of mine!) They are deliberately making it painful to think this issue (and others) through.
So we are being assailed by this mind-numbing nonsensical 'logic' and overwhelmed by images from videos of horrendous acts of butchery to turn our minds and our futures over to the elite who are running this 'live-in Hollywood movie'.
Brainwashing relies on confusion and pain (mental if they can't inflict physical pain) to overwhelm and pound the victim into giving up control of their thinking.
So, now, people give over control of what God gave us all to guide us through the trials of this world to these psychopaths whose ultimate goal is power over us; power over our minds so they can destroy us and believe they are more powerful than God because they can destroy whatever he creates.
These people run our governments. It may sound hopeless but it is not. We can still perceive the truth once we know that that is not Grandma under that bonnet with the big ears.
The following is from Infowars. Yes, I know! But very astute, never-the-less
The answers ultimately lie in those woolly sounding words, 'love', 'humour' and 'creativity'. Because these are the very things they are trying to kill; trying to kill in us all.
Woolwich attack: MI5 'offered job to suspect'
Woolwich attack: MI5 'offered job to suspect'
http://www.sott.net/article/262114-Woolwich-attack-MI5-offered-job-to-su...
"MI5 asked Woolwich murder suspect Michael Adebolajo if he wanted to work for them about six months before the killing, a childhood friend has said.
Abu Nusaybah told BBC Newsnight his friend - one of two men arrested after Drummer Lee Rigby's murder in south-east London on Wednesday - had rejected the approach from the security service.
The BBC could not obtain any confirmation from Whitehall sources.
Abu Nusaybah was arrested at the BBC after giving the interview.
Newsnight reporter Richard Watson said after the interview had concluded he left the studio to find officers from the Metropolitan Police counter terrorism unit waiting to arrest Abu Nusaybah.
The Met confirmed a 31-year-old man had been arrested at 21:30 BST on Friday in relation to suspected terrorism offences and search warrants were being executed at two homes in east London.
The arrest was not directly related to the murder of Drummer Rigby, it said.
The soldier was killed in front of dozens of people near Woolwich Barracks, where he was based, on Wednesday afternoon.
Mr Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, who was also arrested at the scene, remain in hospital after being shot by police.
'Bugging me'
In his Newsnight interview, Abu Nusaybah said he thought "a change" had taken place in his friend after a trip to Kenya last year.
He said Mr Adebolajo had told him he travelled there "to study", but instead, was part of a group rounded up by "Kenyan troops" and interrogated in a prison cell.
During his detention he said he was "beaten quite badly", Abu Nusaybah said, and in his opinion, his friend had also been subjected to sexual abuse, although he was too "ashamed" to say exactly what happened.
After this, he became withdrawn "and less talkative - he wasn't his bubbly self", Abu Nusaybah said, adding: "His mind was somewhere else."
He also said Mr Adebolajo was "stopped" upon his return to the UK from Kenya and was later "followed up by MI5" who were "knocking on his door".
He was "basically being harassed", Abu Nusaybah said.
He added: "His wording was, 'They are bugging me - they won't leave me alone.'
"Initially they wanted to ask him if he knew certain individuals.
"But after him saying that he didn't know these individuals, what he said was they asked him if he would be interested in working for them.
"He was explicit in that he refused to work for them but he did confirm he didn't know the individuals."
Reporter Richard Watson said that, in general terms, it was not out of the ordinary for the security service to approach people for information or even to act as covert sources.
Mr Adebolajo, 28, originally from Romford, east London, and fellow suspect Michael Adebowale, 22, of Greenwich, south-east London, had been known to MI5 for eight years, Whitehall sources told the BBC on Thursday.
'Devoted father'
Two women, aged 29 and 31, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, have been released without charge, but a man, 29, remains in custody.
Speaking about the fight against the rise of the extremist ideology, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police Sir Peter Fahy told the BBC there had been a "steady stream of plots", which had on the whole been foiled by police.
But he said the police and the security services were "particularly concerned" about people travelling from Britain to conflict areas such as Mali, Syria and Iraq and the increase in extremist websites.
Since the murder there has been an sharp increase in the number of in anti-Muslim incidents, according to the organisation Faith Matters, which works to reduce extremism.
Before the attack about four to eight cases a day were reported to its helpline, but the group said about 150 incidents had been reported in the last few days, including attacks on mosques.
On Friday, Drummer Rigby's wife Rebecca, the mother of his two-year-old son, said she had been aware of the dangers of her husband serving in countries where there was armed conflict, including Afghanistan, but added: "You don't expect it to happen when he's in the UK. You think they're safe."
She said: "I love Lee and always will. I am proud to be his wife. He was a devoted father to our son Jack and we will both miss him terribly."
Drummer Rigby's stepfather, Ian Rigby, said: "We would like to say 'Goodnight Lee, rest in peace our fallen soldier. We love you loads and words cannot describe how loved and sadly missed you will be'."
Mr Rigby added that his stepson "adored and cared a lot for his family, he was very much a family man, looking out for his wife, young son Jack, younger sisters, whom in turn they looked up to him".
Good article on the Russian Fleet
Good article on the significance of the Russian Fleet returning to the Mediteranean by Jim W. Dean of Press TV
Russian fleet returns to Mediterranean - an unintended consequence of Western aggression
http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/05/20/304416/russian-med-fleet-warning...
"The recent Israeli attacks on Syria, particularly the use of a nuclear bunker buster gave the Russians a gift from heaven, opening the door to make a defensive deployment to protect their longtime ally in Syria. The Russians are back in the Med to stay, and this might be a good lesson to the folly of the Western slow motion aggression policy in the region, which has put a match to the whole place.
...
Here is what corporate media has not been telling you all. The preemptive strike doctrine of the Israelis and Neocons is going to be challenged. Netanyahu can talk all he wants to about red lines which will trigger a preemptive 'defensive' strike, but yours truly has written in these columns that eventually the intended targets would adopt that policy themselves. They have actually been given permission to by the dummies who invented it.
US Navy sources can sneer at the 'old' Russian ships all they want to, but there is nothing old about what they will be carrying, a game changer... their state-of-the-art missiles which they made a top priority in their defense policy as the new missiles are revolutionizing the next generation of warfare.
...
Any retaliatory strike by Israel would trigger a full response by the Russians that could include their bases and command structure. Their updated Iskander missiles are stated to have speeds in the Mach 6 to 7 range but our sources say over Mach 8. To evade anti-missile fire they can pull 30+ g turns and make a 90-degree dive onto a target while doing so. The Israeli bullies have never had to stand up to a modern military but they may get the chance. They won't like it.
...
Despite Bibi's claiming that Israel is ready for all eventualities, it is ready for none of this. And if the Russians responded to an Israeli attack, believe me the US would not intercede.
The US would be in enough trouble for having put the region in such danger by arming Israel to the teeth to a level its own population could never have afforded, nor would they if they could have.
When Israel suffers a substantial retaliatory strike after an aggressive attack on their part, I can promise you the average Israeli is going to have an instant different opinion of the bully buzz they have grown used to when attacking weak or defenseless opponents.
In the long run more than a few international civilian and military Intel entities have long suspected that this is what eventually would have to happen to remove Israel as a threat to everybody. They would attack the wrong people at the wrong time.
Nobody in the American military is going to willingly die for bully Israel other than maybe the Christian Zios in the Air Force. But that said, the world would be a safer place with them gone anyway."
I'm sure Mr Dean is writing
I'm sure Mr Dean is writing this for an israeli audience and I wouldn't be surprised if all his facts are correct. I remember reading some years ago about the Russian missile batteries in Syria and being manned by Russian technicians. Then no mention of them in the press. I couldn't have imagined the Russians having a reason for removing them but have been puzzled by their non-use after repeated israeli incursions. Still, is this the first aerial attack on Syria by israel since Putin resumed the Russian presidency?
Implied in Dean's article is that the Russians have been giving the israelis and the Americans enough rope to hang themselves and now they have. The tables are now turned on diabolical duo and it has happened quickly. Which points to pre planning.
" Perhaps we can assume that the base at Tartus is, in fact, protected by state-of-the-art S-300 surface-to-air missile batteries manned by Russians.... ?"

"Still, is this the first aerial attack on Syria by israel since Putin resumed the Russian presidency?
According to duhWiki, there was an Israeli aerial attack on "arms believed to be carrying advanced anti-aircraft weaponry from Syria to the Lebanese Shi'a militia Hezbollah" in Jan 2013 that destroyed some Russian made anti aircraft missiles. However, it doesn't appear to have been officially acknowledged by Israel. Perhaps, Penny would know more about this.

Putin attends BRICS Summit in Durban, South Africa
"A week before the recent BRICS summit in Durban, the Kremlin administration has silently produced a document (PDF) which describes the Russian strategy in the context of BRICS cooperation. The document makes for a fascinating read for anyone brave enough to plow through the dense Russian legalese. The strategy has been designed in the “inner circle” of Vladimir Putin’s team, so it is safe to assume that it represents the official view on the BRICS future.
In Russia, politics are Byzantine; the fact that the Kremlin decided not to hide the document or leak it to a chosen few journalists, but publish it outright is a very strong signal, a very vocal angry signal directed at the US. A signal that the Western media chose to ignore.
In the recitals section of the document, the authors point out that “there is a common desire of the BRICS partners to reform the outdated global financial and economic framework that doesn’t take into account the growing economic weight of the emerging markets.” Moreover, the Russian strategists view the BRICS as a tool to reform the way the world is being governed. Then the document hammers home its message:
Russia assumes that, given enough political will of the leadership of the BRICS countries to advance their cooperation, this alliance can become one of the key elements of a new system for global governance, primarily in the economic and financial domains.
Move aside New World Order! The BRICS are coming to change the world.
The goals are clear. In the section titled “Strategic goals,” the first point on the BRICS’ agenda is the reform of the world financial system in order to make it “fairer, more stable, and more efficient.” In the later chapters, it is spelled clearly that this “reform” is actually a dismantling of the dollar system.

Thanks for the timeline, McJ. The BRICS nations will indeed remake the world if they keep going the way they are and if the jewish bankers can't derail their plans somehow.

Great analysis of the Syrian war and Middle East geopolitics
Great analysis of the Syrian war and Middle East geopolitics from an Armenian perspective.
"As the terrible carnage in Syria continues unabated, the region in question continues to hang on the verge of a major global confrontation. The conflict in Syria has unmistakably taken on an international flavor. Unfortunately for Damascus, Washington, London, Tel Aviv, Paris, Ankara, Riyadh and Doha have converging national interests in Syria; Fortunately for Damascus, so does Moscow and Tehran, and perhaps Beijing. The bitter war we have been witnessing in Syria during the past two years has little to do with the Syria's Sunni population's desire to free themselves from a Alawite led dictatorial government. Syria's woes may have started as a popular Sunni movement, but it was soon hijacked by geopolitical interests. Today, the war in Syria is purely geopolitical in nature. In fact, this war can accurately be described as a proxy war being fought between the Anglo-American-Zionist alliance and their friends one side and the Moscow-Tehran axis on the other.
Syria has become the blood-soaked battlefield upon which the Western alliance and friends have been desperately trying to remake the strategically important region according to their geostrategic designs, as Moscow and Tehran feverishly try to salvage their presence in the disputed region. Therefore, it's a misnomer to call what's going on in Syria a civil war."
