A few site updates

Construction is ongoing here and plans continue to develop.

Here are a few recent changes:

  • changed the front page to list the most recent blog posts instead of my initial welcome message.
  • enabled avatars (if you have an account, click "My account", then "edit" to upload your avatar. If you don't have an account, well what are you waiting for?)
  • enabled italics and font tags, for more customization of posts, comments, signatures, what have you
  • added the custom favicon (that little "WP" in your browser's location bar)

And future changes:

  • At some point i bet the spambots will find us; at that time we'll need to turn off unfiltered anonymous posting.
  • Rules. So far only friends have posted here. If and when that changes, we'll need to establish some rules.
  • Development of the Forums into an R&D area for specific topics and articles, so we can pitch in and help research & develop new & useful material - we'll see how this goes.

Have fun and don't be afraid to experiment!
Any suggestions for a default avatar to use with Anonymous posts?

Overt WARNING to Dissidents?

March 2008 -- Pentagon Ray Gun
CBS 60 Minutes Video Clip

Correspondent David Martin conducts a biased review of the Pentagon’s Ray Gun.
Check out video at 1:38 – Is this an overt warning to dissidents?

Southern Beale - 60 Minutes Shills for the Pentagon

"Watching 60 Minutes National Security Correspondent David Martin introduce the Pentagon’s “Active Denial System” as the best life-saving advancement since the invention of Kevlar was nothing short of surreal. I actually had to watch the segment twice because I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears the first time.

... David Martin and 60 Minutes Producer Mary Walsh must be either incredibly stupid or on the Pentagon’s payroll. “End The War” and “World Peace” placards are a scene from Iraq? Really? This looks less like a scene from Iraq than a scene from America.

This certainly tells us everything we need to know about who the Pentagon views as the enemy. And it speaks volumes about the incurious stenography offered by 60 Minutes reporter David Martin and producer Mary Walsh.

Martin and Walsh seem particularly clueless about any moral or ethical issues which a crowd control device of this type presents. They spin this story as a tale of government bureaucracy holding up a really wonderful life saving device. "

Run away the ray-gun is coming : We test US army's new secret weapon
[snip] … here's how it works in the field.

A square transmitter as big as a plasma TV screen is mounted on the back of a Jeep.

When turned on, it emits an invisible, focused beam of radiation - similar to the microwaves in a domestic cooker - that are tuned to a precise frequency to stimulate human nerve endings.

It can throw a wave of agony nearly half a mile.

Military Zips Lips on Pain Ray Accident

August 2005 --

Alternet – Rumsfeld’s Ray Gun [ADS – Active Denial System]

[snip] … Long Term Problems

Aside from thermal injuries like blindness or burns, could a protestor who got zapped by an overzealous ADS controller eventually wind up with disease such as cancer? Another way of stating it: Do millimeter waves at the frequency of 95 gigahertz cause long term biological changes unrelated to heat?

The military says no. Others aren't so sure. And these things are often hard, if not near impossible, to prove.

In 2004, a North Atlantic Treaty Organization report on non-lethal weapons raised warnings. "The long-term physiological effects of the microwaves received by an individual are still being studied (maximum acceptable dose, cumulative effect of successive exposures)," the report states. "The absence of definitive results is the main obstacle to the use of radio frequencies."

The report goes on to note that "excessive power levels can have serious consequences for human targets."

Leveraging whatever it is ...

I've been thinking about ways in which we can use this site to leverage whatever it is that we have going for us. Here's one possibility:

I've got research for half a dozen stories partially finished, but not getting anywhere. For reasons I can't get into here, nothing will happen with any of them unless I can recruit some assistance. So here's your chance!

If you're interested in throwing some time and energy into one or more of these projects, any of which could wind up being really depressing, speak up.

Hey!! I'm in! I'm a member! I'm number 6!! Rock ON!! That's so cool!!

Many thanks to NJT for setting up this site -- which opens up some really interesting possibilities! -- and for all his support, here and elsewhere. And thanks to everybody else who has been supportive in one way or another -- helping me to hang tough in difficult times.

But number 6 is so cool! That was my number when I was in spy-school. As you probably know (but may not realize), I could have been famous; but I got there too soon. Yes, yes, it's a little-known fact: I was in line just before Bond -- James Bond! And I was depressed about this for a while (many years, in fact), but it turned out that some things are more valuable than fame and fortune! Who would have guessed? Anyway, I am thrilled to be number 6 here. How about that? Will miracles never cease??

Bring on the evil creeps so we can flay them! And best wishes to everybody else.

Big Brother Is Watching - Microsoft Is Helping

I got a new laptop for Christmas which of course was loaded with Windows Vista. The other computers in my house all run XP.
I stumbled upon this article today and it has me wondering if I need to make a change.

Does Windows Vista Send Information to the Government?
by Bill Lindner on 20070726 @ 00:13AM EST | google it | send to friends
Channel: Windows | Bill's Links and More | (related terms: vista, network)
http://www.infopackets.com/channels/en/windows/bills_links_and_more/2007...

Is there more to Windows Vista being big brother than was originally thought? There appear to be features and services bundled into Windows Vista that stay in touch with the government and their associates, too.

If this is true, Microsoft has gone too far. This post was in an abandonia.com forum, and appeared to get overloaded from all the attention it was getting. Whitedust.net had a copy of it on their site.

A forum user switched to Windows Vista a month ago and actually had some good luck with it. He began noticing latency on his home network connection. He used port sniffing software and networking tools to see what was going on. What he found he referred to as "foundation shaking." There are some graphical images of a peerguardian 2 log with some very interesting information. The computer was in an idle state.

It shows the computer connected to the following (in his own words):
* DoD Network Information Center (Department of Defense)
* United Nations Development Program (Seems to correlate to the parent branch of the U.N. Informatics Division)
* Halliburton Company (We all know these guys)
* Ministry of Defense Data Return Agent
* DOHS-Recon (traceroutes for this address provided nothing, suspected blocks on traceroute. Many of us who are monitoring this situation have suspected the acronym stands for the Department of Homeland Security Reconnaissance. This is merely a guess, but an educated one at that)

I ran traceroutes on the IP's, and sure enough they came back government owned. I thought this might be exclusive to my system, so I ran over to a friend of mine who upgraded to Vista when it first became available. After installing monitoring software on his system, the hits it caught on his network were immediate and almost identical in source.

Is there anyone in the abandonia community with a US based connection who is experiencing this watchdog behavior? Are any foreign Vista users experiencing similar attacks from their own countries ministries and governing agencies?

It would be interesting to see how common this is. If Microsoft is doing this to all their Windows Vista consumers, it's time to take a long hard look at how they do things.

9/11 Protestor Arrested

Here we go... protesting 9/11 and locked up for...?

CORPUS CHRISTI — Police detained a protester at an early morning campaign stop by former President Bill Clinton.

The unidentified man had been holding a sign saying that 9/11 was in inside job. After Clinton finished his speech and was shaking hands with the crowd, the man began yelling at the former president, who was campaigning for his wife Hillary Rodham Clinton's presidential run.

Police approached the man. When officers were nearby, a member of the crowd grabbed the sign and tore it in half. The man began screaming at officers, asking them to protect his First Amendment rights. Four police officers then yanked the man from the crowd. He was later placed in handcuffs and led away to a patrol car.

An officer at the scene said the man would be charged with disorderly conduct.

And the guy who tore the sign? No, you see, that wasn't disorderly.
