The Frog and the Scorpion (with Addendum)

(See addendum at the foot of this article)

source

(What is really fascinating about this particular cartoon of the story, "The Frog and the Scorpion", is that the scorpion has portrayed himself as the frog and so adding another level to it. Psychopaths regularly portray themselves as the victim. See the 'source' link above for a portrayal of this that you will recognise pretty easily)

Orson Welles relating the story of The Frog and the Scorpion

The story of the Frog and the Scorpion is a very old one and is as relevant today as it has ever been, if not more so. It tells about how a certain type of person, represented by the scorpion, will knowingly go against logic and reason and just plain common sense, to their own and others' detriment, even death. This is so hard to grasp for for the rest of us, represented in the story by the frog. But even though we may not understand it, it is imperative for our survival that we accept it's reality.

Radiation - Invisible Nightmare

Radiation kills silently, invisibly. Information as to the dangers and the incompetence of the designers and the operators of nuclear power plants has also been invisible. This lack of information also kills. Many people died from the radiation from Chernobyl because of lack of timely information which was withheld by the authorities. Keith Harmon Snow reports that nearly one million people have died from the Chernobyl disaster as of 2004. This is in stark contrast to the 4000 deaths 'officially' admitted to.

If we feel, therefore, that we do not now have the ideas and resources to create absolutely effective radiation safeguards, then it would be better to call a halt today. Tomorrow may be too late.

Joe Bageant - In Appreciation

Bageant Moves On

We don't last, and there's no warranty.

March 27, 2011

This will mean little perhaps to those who do not know Joe Bageant, but I write it for those who do. Or want to, which makes sense.

Jocotepec, Mexico--Joe lived awhile down the lake. We would visit him of an afternoon, Vi and I, and find him, a bear of a man, bearded mountain Buddha, writing on the porch of his one-room place in Ajijic. Always he wore his old fishing vest, in which I suspect he was born, and sometimes he carried a small laptop in one of its pockets. Usually we adjourned to the living room, which was also the bedroom, dining room, and salon. He would fetch bottles of local red, or make the jalapeño martinis he invented—there was a bit of mad chemist in him—and we would talk for hours of art, music, the news, politics, and people. Especially people. Sometimes he grabbed one of the guitars from the wall and sang blues, at which he was good.. I guess growing up dirt poor in West Virginia puts that kind of music in you.

Open Letter of Russian Doctors in Libya to the President of the Russian Federation

Copied in full from Global Research

Global Research Editor's note

The account provided by the team of Russian Doctors constitutes an eyewitness account of what is happening on the ground in Libya. It contradicts the stream of media disinformation. It confirms that the coalition is routinely bombing civilian targets. For those progressives who have endorsed the US-NATO "humanitarian mandate", this account provides us with evidence of extensive war crimes by those you claim to be coming to the rescue of civilians. Residential buildings, hospital are being targeted by the coalition's smart bombs. The latter are extremely precise. The bombing of civilians is deliberate. These are so-called validated targets. they are part of a list of targets.

Open letter of Russian doctors in Libya to the President of the Russian Federation

[...]

Today, there is blatant external aggression of USA and NATO against a sovereign country - Libya. And if anyone can doubt this, then we say this obvious fact is well known, because all this is happening before our eyes, and the actions of U.S. and NATO threaten the lives of not only the citizens of Libya, but to us who are on its territory. We are outraged by the barbaric bombing of Libya, which is currently carried out by a coalition of U.S. and NATO.

ENOUGH!

Enough of this madness. Reading the news is becoming hair pulling stuff, isn't it? It feels like any reasonably competent twelve year old could run things in this world better than the psychopathic lot we have for leaders have been doing.

But that's it, isn't it? They're psychopaths and that's why every thing is turning to shit. None of them are the least bit concerned about the people they harm, injure and kill. War is an opportunity for Quislings to become statesmen. War is an opportunity for electorally spent politicians to get it up for one more election. And those that could have prevented the war and just stood by instead, can wring their hands with regret and utter their condolences on behalf of the disenfranchised to the families of the disembowelled.

Libya, Oil, Uranium and War

Keith Harmon Snow has written an important and far ranging article on the current situation in Libya and how it has come about entitled GENOCIDE IN LIBYA? NATO INVASION UNDER WAY. ITS THE OIL, STUPID..

It is a necessarily long article and well worth the effort taken to read it in full. But to give it some added coverage and to encourage others to read it, I have quoted extensively from it below and hope I haven't done Mr. Snow a disservice in the process.

PETROLEUM & EMPIRE IN NORTH AFRICA
Muammar Gaddafi Accused of Genocide? NATO Invasion Underway.

"Are events unfolding in Libya, Tunisia and Egypt more about petro-terrorism or about freedom and democracy? How much oil is there in North Africa? Who is in control of that oil? What is the relationship between the West and Muammar Gaddafi? Is he really the terrorist we've all been led to believe he is? Who is the Libyan "opposition" and who are the "rebels" we read about?" ......
