Not Necessarily the News: Russia to 'neutralise' US missile defence

For some reason the 'ahem' mainstream sites aren't talking about this much,
Russia's military is ready to "neutralise" any threat to its nuclear deterrent from US missile defence sites in Europe, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak said Monday, according to Interfax news agency.

"If we see the development of systems that could reduce our deterrent potential, our military will have to take steps to neutralise the threat," Kislyak was quoted as saying at a briefing in Moscow.

He did not specify the steps that would be taken, saying "this will be decided by military specialists."

"We would prefer not to have to do this," he added.

Kislyak said US proposals to ease Russian concerns about the missile shield, which Washington claims is aimed at countering possible threats from states such as Iran, remained in doubt.

Raw Story Article

My take on missile defense was always that it could be relatively easily defeated by launching a wave or two of decoys, then launch your real missiles amidst another batch of decoys.

Here's the problem with missile defense (assuming it even works as intended) - it costs far, far more for this defense than it does for the offense. The United States spends more than the rest of the world combined on "defense" yet Americans are still less safe now than they've been in the past. Wouldn't it be a lot less expensive to just be nice to people?

SILVER, GOLD AND THE IRS

I stumbled across this interesting article today;
Today in America, we are being systematically robbed of our property because we have allowed the Federal Reserve to flood our banks with fiat, worthless paper money.

Robert Kahre owns a family business and instead of using paper money he paid his workers with gold and silver coins minted by the United States government. He paid them based on the “face value” of the coins. If he paid a worker a dollar an hour he paid with a silver dollar, which states on the coin that it is “one dollar” regardless of today’s value. His wages were so low that he didn’t have to file W-2 income tax forms or withhold taxes or pay workman’s comp. This upset the IRS, which charged him and his family with 161 federal tax crimes.

Read the rest to see how it turned out:

Let's just say I'm thinking to offer my boss to take a 90% cut in pay but start getting paid in silver, since I believe the dollar's devaluation will continue to accelerate. Imagine what might happen when everyone starts demanding payment in currency backed by gold & silver.

Not Necessarily the News: Iraqi officials outraged by U.S. raid in prime minister's hometown

Iraqi officials outraged by U.S. raid in prime minister's hometown:

Khazaali, the U.S.-allied governor, denounced the operation at a news conference, saying the U.S. military hadn't coordinated in advance with Iraqi forces, who assumed control of Karbala security in October 2007. The governor said the raid set "a dangerous precedent" for areas ostensibly under full Iraqi control.

Former Lying Toad Desperately Tries to Save Soul

From the "Day Late, Dollar Short" category
Former White House Lying Toad Scott McClellan told NBC's "Today" show on Thursday that he erroneously believed what President Bush was saying about the war but now is answering a higher loyalty: “a loyalty to the truth.”

So his loyalty to the truth propelled him to write a book? Ok.
In response to which current White House Lying Toad, Dana Perino issued a statement:

"Scott, we now know, is disgruntled about his experience at the White House. For those of us who fully supported him, before, during and after he was press secretary, we are puzzled. It is sad - this is not the Scott we knew."

RIGHT?! That's what I was thinking too! The Scott I knew would NEVER in a MILLION years tell the truth!!
Perino continued:

"The book, as reported by the press, has been described to the President. I do not expect a comment from him on it - he has more pressing matters than to spend time commenting on books by former staffers."

So he had time to have the book "described" to him, but no time to emit a comment? I'd guess the truth is that his comment is not fit for mixed company! LOL, more pressing matters... Like catapulting propaganda with the use of the word "retreat" to describe the only sane option in Iraq?

How about instead of commenting on the book, answering to the allegations?

“These are good and well-intentioned people,” McClellan added.

Hey! What happened to your loyalty to the truth, Scottie?

Conyers, Rove & NBC correspondent Pete Williams

Just read an interesting story over at Raw; http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Conyers_subpoenas_Karl_Rove_0522.html

This particular line caught my eye:

"Reacting to the news on NBC, correspondent Pete Williams said that the Justice Department most likely won't enforce the subpoena."

I need to look into this more but, being a fan of "the journalism" my first question of this "journalist" is "According to whom or supported by what?" Is it simply Pete Williams opinion? Did someone whisper in his ear, telling him to say this?

Ah now things are coming into focus a little; http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3689493/

Prior to joining NBC, Williams served as a press official on Capitol Hill for many years. In 1986 he joined the Washington, DC staff of then Congressman Dick Cheney as press secretary and a legislative assistant. In 1989, when Cheney was named Assistant Secretary of Defense, Williams was appointed Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs. While in that position, Williams was named Government Communicator of the Year in 1991 by the National Association of Government Communicators.

To me, this is the crux of the matter: "the Justice Department most likely won't enforce the subpoena" (said the Cheney aid who poses as a reporter).

Well, what the F@#$ good are subpoenas if they won't be enforced?
