ProgressVirginia reported Tuesday afternoon that the Virginia Senate’s Privileges and Elections Committee killed Sen. Charles “Bill” Carrico Sr.’s electoral college-rigging bill, despite an offer by Carrico to amend the bill to award electors in proportion to the state’s popular vote. The vote was 11-4 against the bill, although it will not be official until the close of the committee meeting.

CNN's Jake Tapper had Representative and conspiracy theorist James Comer on for an interview. It didn't take long for it to go downhill fast.

Tapper asked Comer why he compared Comer to the proverbial dog who caught the bus and asked why in the world he wouldn't take Biden Hunter's offer to testify in a hearing open to the public.

Comer replied, "This isn't about politics" to which Tapper openly laughed at Comer. Comer blamed the media for wanting a big show and that his job was to find the truth. Comer never explained why he couldn't find the truth in public as opposed behind closed door.

Comer then spent some time rehashing the already debunked allegations when Comer hit his second doozy in as many minutes:

JC: We just think this is the tip of the iceberg. We think there are many more crimes. My concern is that Weiss might have indicted him to protect him from being deposed.

JT:: Ah, yes! Yes!! He indicted him to protect him. Yes. It's the classic Rubric. He indicted him to protect him. I got it.

JC: This whole thing is about a cover up.

JT: That's why he indicted him? Was to protect him? To cover it up?

JC: Well, you indict him on the least little things. The gun charge and not paying taxes...

JT: He's facing like 17 additional years in prison.. These are felonies.

It should be noted that not once did Comer offer up any piece of evidence to support his wild accusations and allegations.

As we already discussed here, "District Judge Maya Guerra Gamble handed down a temporary restraining order of Texas’ draconian abortion law on Thursday. The order allows Kate Cox, of Dallas, to get an abortion and protects a Houston OB/GYN from civil and criminal penalties for performing it." Then, corrupt Texas AG Ken Paxton threatened to prosecute any doctor or hospital that provided an emergency abortion, and asked the state Supreme Court to intervene.

The Supreme Court responded, and has "temporarily" halted the ruling from the lower court which allowed the abortion. How long until they give a permanent ruling while this woman's health hangs in the balance, who knows? Here's more from the Center for Reproductive Rights:

Seems before they tied the knot both put money into a swanky $3.9mil beachfront home and another home in D.C. Sometime last month though they finally broke up for good and now Mace and her former unmarried but joint-propertied beau are threatening legal action against one another.

The 46-year-old mother-of-two was stunned in May 2022 when her entrepreneur boyfriend Patrick Bryant got down on one knee and asked if she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him.

But less than 18 months since that heartwarming proposal, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal that the couple have broken up and are now in the middle of a messy legal fight over multi-million-dollar homes they bought together.

According to four sources, the South Carolina lawmaker - who was one of the eight to vote former Speaker Kevin McCarthy out in a historic vote - split with Charleston software mogul Bryant last month.

Since they parted ways, their rift has deteriorated, and now they are fighting over a $3.9 million beachfront property with six bedrooms and a pool and a $1.3 million Washington, D.C., home they both have equity in.

Public records suggest neither Mace or Bryant have filed a lawsuit, though three sources familiar with the situation say Mace is expected to take legal action over the homes.

DeSantis is widely mocked for his robot-like behavior. his lizard like tongue juts, his awkward smiles that show him forcing his tongue between his teeth, his weird head bobs when he gets angry...and who can forget his pudding fingers. So, of course, the narration would highlight all of this.

It starts of with "Remember Ron, you are normal, you are not weird. You are 5'11". Your suit is soft and your shoes are grown-up big boy shoes." And yes, as this is going on, Ron looks at his shoes.

Then it goes to "That's it, pretending you're listening to music, human music. Good. Check the phone, normal style. Activate conversation mode. Hello, you're busy, okay, love you bye fuck fuck fuck fuck" as he realizes he was acting weird.

Newsmax and Fox News aren't taking the extraordinary November jobs report very well, which surpassed expectations. Unsurprisingly, Wish.com's version of Fox News, Newsmax, tried to spin the stronger-than-expected job data that was released by blaming undocumented workers.

The network ran with the job report as being "propped up" by illegal immigration. How can that be if they're stealing all of our jobs, you ask? OK, you didn't ask, but they're saying healthcare and education hirings are up because "these illegal immigrants are turning up at healthcare facilities" and "there are more kids being put into the schools."

Over at Fox, Maria Bartiromo looked like she was about to choke.

199,000 jobs were added in November with unemployment falling to 3.7%. It is the 23rd straight month of unemployment that is under 4% and the 35th straight month of job growth.

Turning Point USA's Charlie Kirk decided to "report" on the Southern border on the same day that stronger-than-expected job data was released. I'm not saying there is a connection here, but it happens like clockwork. Is there good news about the Biden administration? I think I see a scaravan coming!

But somehow, Charles tied President Joe Biden in with militias on the border. You know how Sleepy Joe is! And it sure does sound like Kirk wants to stir up some trouble. Incite should be the word of the year. Conservatives are so good at that, and then they can blame Biden, which, of course, Kirk does.

"Here's what's happening, Andy," Charles said. "Now we're starting to see militias show up on the border because they want to take things into their own hands."

"This is inevitable; you're going to start to see more and more citizens – and again, I don't support that necessarily; I want things to be followed through the natural law and protocol, but Andy, it's almost like they're inviting, you know, people to come and take things into their own hands, right?" he continued as if to goad right-wing militia members into taking "things into their own hands."

It's treason, y'all.

The Republican poutrage over the supposed banning of gas stoves was debunked almost a year ago, in January. But Emily Compagno, a lawyer, paid as much attention to the truth as she did when she selectively edited a Foreign Policy article to dishonestly blame President Joe Biden for key administration vacancies. Or when she promoted a fake story about homeless veterans being displaced to make room for undocumented migrants.

In this case, Compagno, a native Californian who went to law school in San Francisco, was whining about Biden’s fundraiser in Santa Monica Friday night. “It’s $500,000 to cohost it," Compagno sneered, as if Republicans doesn't host expensive fundraisers. “My question is, is meat gonna be served? Are they using gas stoves to cook the meal?” No, she didn't come out and say Biden wants to ban gas stoves. But her viewers knew that's what she was suggesting.

The biggest danger we face as a country has long been obvious: it's the reelection of Trump. An ethical quicksand of corruption, avarice, cruelty, incompetence and, increasingly, his cerebral function is coming to resemble the dark side of the moon.

Republicans, many of whom are simply not-as-loud versions of Trump, know that the public knows this. So they're trying to impeach Joe Biden, they can't go through a day without saying the name "Hunter" and they've even tried to make it seem like it is Joe Biden who is threatening democracy.

Because they do get one simple thing: If their media repeats it endlessly, their base of drones will believe it. And it will make its way to a lot of low-information voters, and in many to most cases the mainstream media won't explain the difference to people between a legitimate candidate and an aspiring dictator.

Does anyone think Donald Trump is good in bed? As New York magazine's Olivia Nuzzi reported earlier this year, Stormy Daniels says in her memoir that Trump is terrible, the wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am type:

“... There was no foreplay, and it was one position. Missionary....”

It was, she said, among the least impressive “two to three minutes” of her life.

I thought of this when I read Trump's response to Sean Hannity's question about whether a second Trump presidency would be a dictatorship:

“Under no circumstances — you are promising America tonight — you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?” Hannity asked Trump....

“Except for Day One,” Trump quickly replied....

“Except for Day One. Meaning?” Hannity asked.

“I want to close the border, and I want to drill, drill, drill,” Trump said as the crowd cheered....

Trump then doubled down on his promise to close the U.S.-Mexico border and expand oil drilling on his first day, adding: “After that, I’m not a dictator.”

Fossil fuel industry-funded Republicans on the U.S. House Natural Resources Committee voted Wednesday to advance Rep. Lauren Boebert's bill that would saddle taxpayers with the massive cost of cleaning up oil and gas wells on federal lands.

"Corporations awarded a lease to drill on federal land must post a bond. If the leasing corporation abandons an exploration site, goes bankrupt, or fails to plug a well securely, the posted bond covers the cost of doing so," Public Citizen explained this week in a statement opposing the proposal.

A pair of London-based think tanks released research Thursday showing that corporate profits contributed substantially to the high inflation that the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, and other major nations experienced amid recent global shocks, including the coronavirus pandemic and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The new report by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) and Common Wealth argues that while corporate profiteering was not the "sole driver of inflation," the market dominance of a few powerful companies "amplified" economywide price increases.

Examining the profits of major firms listed on the stock exchanges of five countries, the analysis shows that many large corporations were able to keep their margins stable or even boost them—as in the case of major oil and gas companies like ExxonMobil—during pandemic-related turmoil and global energy market disruptions caused by Russia's attack on Ukraine.

Democrat State Sen. Tracie Davis of Jacksonville on Wednesday questioned the amount of $557,882 that has been set aside in the proposed state budget for next year.  The money is for collecting data on the immigration status of hospital patients — a controversial initiative.

The half-million allocation is part of the overall proposed state budget for 2024-25 and includes the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration, which Gov. Ron DeSantis revealed on Tuesday.

The $557,882 would go toward establishing a system to collect data on patients’ citizenship status from hospitals that accept Medicaid. As part of the immigration law that went into place in July, hospitals must include a question on their admission intake form about whether the patient is a citizen of the U.S., legal resident or undocumented immigrant. AHCA has to collect that data every quarter and submit a report to the governor, House Speaker and Senate leader by March 1.

If, like me, you're wondering if all New York Republican congressmen are crazy, you're probably not going to be dissuaded from that notion by reading this story from Politico. There are even more sordid details in their longer version but this will give you the gist of it. Somehow, Rep. Brandon Williams thinks coming out and telling his side will help him win re-election next November. He's in his first term in Congress now. He won by only about 1% in 2022 and his district voted for Biden in 2020. Yeah, good luck with that.

A Republican member of Congress is alleging that a former top aide spearheaded a “vindictive” threat to expose his daughter’s OnlyFans account.

Rep. Brandon Williams (R-N.Y.) told POLITICO that his former chief of staff and former legislative director attempted to retaliate against him using his 27-year old daughter’s account on OnlyFans, a popular forum for people to charge for access to sexually explicit content.

According to Williams, the two former staffers, Michael Gordon and Ryan Sweeney, threatened to expose his daughter after Williams fired them.

Scores of independent reproductive health centers have been forced to close or stop offering abortion care, with 14 states now having no abortion clinics, a report published Tuesday revealed.

Abortion Care Network (ACN) released its annual Communities Need Clinics report, which details how "abortion bans, extremist harassment, and the financial realities of operating community-based clinics make it increasingly difficult for independent clinics to stay open" after the right-wing U.S. Supreme Court canceled half a century of federal abortion rights in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization a year-and-a-half ago.

As a result, 65 independent reproductive care clinics have shut down or stopped performing abortions since June 2022. The following states now have no clinics providing abortion care: Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia.

In a lot of ways, it’s a dream job: good pay, great benefits, lots of power, and the ability to break the law with impunity. All it requires is surrendering your soul to Donald Trump.

Axios reports that Trump is laying out his plans for assembling a new Cabinet. Those plans are centered around one thing: loyalty to Trump. Experience is not a requirement. Knowledge is not a requirement. And certainly, morality is right out. What Trump wants is a Cabinet willing to, in Axios’ words, “stretch legal and governance boundaries.”

Someone who wants to be a dictator “on day one” is recruiting a Cabinet of thugs willing to break the law to enforce his will. And some of those potential Cabinet members are already bragging about just how far they will go to protect Trump’s authoritarian rule.

I previously wrote about a Texas judge’s temporary restraining order allowing a woman with a lethally abnormal fetus to get an abortion at 20 weeks into her pregnancy. According to her doctors, the woman’s health is endangered as well as her future ability to bear more children. The judge also ruled that a doctor should be allowed to perform that abortion without facing penalties.

Attorney General Ken Paxton is throwing a temper tantrum. Yes, that’s the same AG Paxton who is charged with securities fraud, is under FBI investigation for corruption and who faces a bar disciplinary for trying to overturn the 2020 presidential election. He was also impeached by Texas’ Republican House of Representatives, though acquitted by the Senate.

Apparently, Paxton thinks laws are whatever he wants them to be. As Chris Hayes explained, Paxton is threatening to prosecute any doctor or hospital that provides that emergency abortion. He sent a letter to three Texas hospitals threatening their licenses, criminal prosecution, and civil penalties if they comply with the judge’s order.

Donald Trump took to his struggling Truth Social platform after attending his $250 million fraud trial on Thursday in New York City. He waxed nostalgia over his four years in office while omitting anything resembling the truth. Sure, the former President does this consistently, but the truth is like kryptonite to his lint-licking supporters. We're living in strange times where Donald J. Trump could eat a baby alive on television, and his supporters would start asking for recipes for baby back ribs.

We've covered the twice-impeached President reminiscing about how the U.S. had "the greatest economy in our history" under his watch in 2020. That same year, we scrambled for provisions at the grocery store, where shelves remained empty. Most of us remember 2020 as the one year we'd like to forget. The pandemic hit, and His Highness sprang into action by refusing to recognize that we were in serious trouble as refrigerated trucks doubled as mobile morgues. But sure, the best year ever.

Trump claims that three years ago the "economy was booming" and the country was "safe" even though the U.S. was being ravaged by a potentially deadly virus.
