On April 18, Republic Police Department officers were called to a Price Cutter to respond to a call about a robbery in which a man held an employee at gunpoint so that he would be served meat.

Larry Gene Gay, 70, of Springfield, is charged with one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon and a felony count of armed criminal action.

In an interview, Gay said he went to Price Cutter to buy steaks. He told the “good man” who was helping him that they needed to weigh the steaks. However, the meat department was closed. Gay said at that point, he showed his gun “Just to say I’m not stealing. I need you here to help me to get a couple of these steaks. I’m not going to hurt you.”

The officer asked Gay why he thought the people in the store called police and told them he was threatening them with his gun.

“I don’t know,” Gay said in the interview. “I have no idea.”

The store employee had an idea why.

“Once he held the gun to my throat — pushed it into my throat — I decided to comply,” the employee told police.

“One thing is pretty clear,” Clinton said in an interview on Morning Joe this week. “Whatever we do, we need to do it more together. I think we need to start talking across this divide.”

Clinton agreed with host Joe Scarborough that Americans are getting fed up with Republican extremism. Referring to recent wins on abortion at the ballot boxes in Kansas, Wisconsin and Michigan, Clinton said, “We’ve never done the ballot box as much as we should have.” But winning there takes a lot of time and money, he noted.

He added that he thinks gun safety laws ought to be put on all referendums, “let people vote on it, then neighbors have to talk to neighbors, they have to treat each other like people.”

Clinton seemed to see the divide as urban or suburban vs. rural. “On my side, there are too many people who favor a lot of these gun measures, who don't know any of these country people, and they don't understand that most of them, you would be glad to have as neighbors if your house caught on fire. They come over and take your kids to safety and come back and help you put the fire out.” Rural gun owners worry about losing the right to hunt, sport shoot and protect their families “if they live way out in the country, in a rural area that’s an hour, maybe two hours away to the nearest law enforcement,” he said.

“We need to start asking each other for help,” Clinton continued. “It is not rational that we should have a dramatically higher death rate among school age children because of gun violence than any other country in the world.”

Truth Social CEO Devin Nunes gave up his political career to head former President Donald Trump's platform, which is pretty much a ripoff from Twitter. And it's not doing very well. Aside from the fact that their ads are amateurishly weird, they likely can't get advertisements that pay better because the site is teeming with racism, sexism, and conspiracy theories. Also, there are a lot of flat earthers there. It's like walking into the Twilight Zone.

Nunes appeared on Newsmax (the network that is being sued by Dominion Voting Systems) to complain that investors with the platform "are being wiped out" by the SEC, blocking them from going public. However, it appears that they violated some securities laws.

"There's a major scandal that's brewing at the SEC, their willingness to play politics and discriminate against people who, like our little company, our startup company, you know, we want to go public," Nunes said.

"We want to merge with the company," he added. "The shareholders that bought into that finance company, Chris, are being wiped out."

I'll give the governor credit: Those Republican state legislators do NOT want the spotlight on their gun positions again. Good on him for taking a stand! Via the Tennessean:

Less than two hours after the state legislature adjourned until 2024, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced plans to soon call lawmakers back to the State Capitol for a special legislative session focused on gun reform.

Lee's action follows calls from both sides of the aisle for a special session focused on gun policy, and demonstrations by thousands of protestors calling for a response to the deadly shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville last month.

[...] "There is broad agreement that dangerous, unstable individuals who intend to harm themselves or others should not have access to weapons," Lee said in a statement released Friday evening. "We also share a strong commitment to preserving Second Amendment rights, ensuring due process, and addressing the heart of the problem with strengthened mental health resources."

That's nice, really. But here's what the state legislators just passed -- not in response to the mass slaying of children (it was already in the pipeline), but they went ahead with it anyway:

Oh look! Another right wing judge apparently doesn't know how to properly fill out financial disclosures.

As we already discussed here, Matthew J. Kacsmaryk issued an opinion earlier this month ordering the FDA to remove the abortion pill mifepristone, which was almost immediately reversed by a Washington court that directly contradicted the Texas court's decision.

The Supreme Court just stayed Kacsmaryk's ruling pending full appeal, but in the meantime, there's a lot more we've been learning about this judge, like the fact that he ought to be impeached for lying during his confirmation hearing in the Senate (sadly, so should several members of our Supreme Court), where he failed to disclose interviews on Christian talk radio where he disparaged contraception and gay rights.

On top of that news, we're also learning from CNN that the interviews weren't the only thing he was hiding.

Within one day, Democratic Congressmen Eric Swalwell and Dan Goldman defty, aggressively, embarrassingly took Marjorie Taylor Greene apart. And the way they did it was pure gold!

Both House members exposed how she thinks that law enforcement--and law--only exists to help her and crush her political enemies: i.e., anyone who doesn’t look like her or do what the authoritarian Republican dingleberries with whom she associates tell them to do.

In fact, Marge was actually so baffled by Congressman Goldman’s maneuver that she was forced to remain silent for the rest of the day (perhaps the first time in recorded history!). After two weeks of abject panic, the Supreme Court gave the best possible ruling in the mifepristone ban, OFFICIALLY STAYING the ruling pending a full appeal. Right wing activist Judge Kacsmaryk put out a bonkerstown ruling, banning a FDA approved, extremely safe, widely used drug.

He hid many of his views during his confirmation. Watch this video to get an idea of his radical views:

Killer Kyle Rittenhouse was to appear at a CCW event in Las Vegas. However, the organizer of the event announced that Ritttenhouse has been "postponed" (read: uninvited) from the event indefinitely. However, the organizer did throw Rittenhouse a bone by blaming it on Rittenhouse's booking agent:

Nephi Khaliki, an instructor with Vegas CCW, which stands for "concealed carry weapon," said in a statement Monday he would be "postponing" Rittenhouse's appearance.

Khaliki cited an issue with Rittenhouse's booking agent "exploiting speakers from both sides of the gun control issue" as the reason for scrapping the appearance. He said Rittenhouse would not be rebooked unless the agent is fired.

Rittenhouse is represented by Premiere Speakers Bureau, which handles keynote speaking engagement booking for many celebrities, business leaders, and public figures.

Donald Trump didn't have a presidency -- it was a crime spree. And the former President, to this day, has been playing his supporters for suckers. It's been the longest grift ever.

Just late last year, Trump announced his foray into NFTs. The virtual trading cards targeting his supporters for sales depict him as a superhero. And more recently, after the one-term scandal-plagued President announced that he would be arrested on Tuesday of this week, he sent out an email blast begging for donations. The arrest hasn't happened yet, but the grift did. He raised $1.5 million in three days.

Trump spokeswoman Liz Harrington appeared on Steve Bannon's podcast and remarked on Ron DeSantis.

"He's been on a fake presidential campaign book tour funded by Rupert Murdoch for weeks now," Harrington said. "People are smart. Why we love Trump so much is because he doesn't take us for suckers."

Russia has already run out of its best T-90M, T-80BVM and T-72B3 tanks. Then it turned to their 50- and 60-year-old T-80Bs and T-62Ms. Even a few modern T-14 tanks showed up in Ukraine, but Russian forces rejected them because they keep breaking down. So now Russia is left looking at ways that only a few months were unthinkable and a bit of a joke, dusting off tanks from the 1950s.

And they're not entirely useless either, especially so if you're Russian and manpower losses aren't even a consideration.

"The earliest T-54 series tanks were adopted by the Soviet Army back in the mid-to-late 1940s, and the T-55 series entered service in 1958. Even an outdated tank is more useful than no tank at all, but we consider the lack of rangefinders and ballistic computers (not to mention fire control systems) to be the key disadvantages of these series, as well as primitive sights and (in T-54s) an inferior gun stabilization system." – CIT reports.

Former President Donald Trump has been lashing out at every top official investigating him for several potential crimes. And, of course, Trump sycophants Rep. Jim Jordan and other Republican leaders are demanding that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg go to Congress to testify why he was indicting Trump.

Today, Trump broke out in an all-caps rant to lash out at Bragg on Truth Social. The one-term President's closing two sentences appeared to call for violence -- again.

"HE (Bragg) IS JUST CARRYING OUT THE PLANS OF THE RADICAL LEFT LUNATICS," he said. "OUR COUNTRY IS BEING DESTROYED, AS THEY TELL US TO BE PEACEFUL!"

After that, Lumpy posted a link to an 'article' from National File in what Media Bias describes as "an extreme right Tin-Foil Hat Conspiracy website based on the promotion of unproven/debunked claims and a Strong Pseudoscience purveyor based on using junk science to support claims."

We can add violent to that description. Trump posted the link that includes a photo of him holding a baseball bat next to a photo of Bragg.

Minnesota last week became just the fourth U.S. state to guarantee universal free school meals, triggering a fresh wave of demands and arguments for a similar federal policy to feed kids.

"Universal school meals is now law in Minnesota!" Democratic U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, who represents the state, tweeted Monday. "Now, we need to pass our Universal School Meals Program Act to guarantee free school meals to every child across the country."

Gov. Ron DeSantis told reporters if a reporter uses anonymous sources in a story or article, it could be considered a malicious act subject to a lawsuit for defamation.

Florida, led by DeSantis, is trying to undo First Amendment protections for journalism and all Americans in this country by promoting a new bill: HB 991: Defamation, False Light, and Unauthorized Publication of Name or Likenesses.

During today's press conference, a reporter asked the Florida governor about his latest actions.

"We're hearing concerns that the defamation bills that you support, Governor, would chill free speech, particularly for people on social media, bloggers, and people at public meetings, and encourage frivolous lawsuits," the reporter asked. "So how would your administration keep that from happening?"

Trump promised to investigate and fire all government employees he deems unfaithful and disloyal if he is re-elected.

"Fourth, to expose the hoaxes and abuses of power that have been tearing our country apart, we will establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to declassify and publish all documents on deep state spying, censorship, and corruption," Trump said. "And there are plenty of them."

"Fifth, we will launch a major crackdown on government leakers who collude with the fake news to deliberately weave false narratives and to subvert our government and our democracy," he promised. "When possible, we will press criminal charges."

This is as anti-democratic as it can get for a person running for office in the United States.

Trump claims he'll fire 100,000 federal workers and install his loyalist brownshirts who love him.

"As many as 100,000 government positions could be moved out, and I mean immediately, of Washington to places filled with patriots who love America," he said. "And they really do love America."

What he means is that they really only love Trump and will do his bidding unconditionally. It’s also a racist slam on the Black workers in Washington, D.C..

"WHY WON'T BRAGG DROP THIS CASE? EVERYBODY SAYS THERE IS NO CRIME HERE. I DID NOTHING WRONG! IT WAS ALL MADE UP BY A CONVICTED NUT JOB WITH ZERO CREDIBILITY, WHO HAS BEEN DISPUTED BY HIGHLY RESPECTED PROFESSIONALS AT EVERY TURN," he wrote. "BRAGG REFUSES TO STOP DESPITE OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY. HE IS A SOROS BACKED ANIMAL WHO JUST DOESN'T CARE ABOUT RIGHT OR WRONG NO MATTER HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE HURT. THIS IS NO LEGAL SYSTEM, THIS IS THE GESTAPO, THIS IS RUSSIA AND CHINA, BUT WORSE. DISGRACEFUL!"

MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell expressed the fear artificial intelligence (A.I.) systems would take control of humankind if voting machines are not destroyed.

During an interview on Wednesday, Lindell and War Room host Steve Bannon discussed why A.I. could be the "Antichrist."

"Mike Lindell, you've got some thoughts on artificial [intelligence] and, look, I'm telling people, hey, this is the Antichrist," Bannon prompted. "I hate to be so blunt about it, right? It's not going to be a human."

For his part, Lindell linked the danger of A.I. to voting machines.

"We're at this apex in history now," the pillow executive opined. "If we don't get rid of these electronic voting machines, if we don't get rid of the machines and get back to having elections and not selections, we have to elect the people that are going to regulate this artificial intelligence."

"We're going have artificial intelligence regardless," he continued. "But you better have the right people regulating it. You could frame people for anything. You could do anything with that, and we're going to just be controlled."

"And you're right!" Lindell agreed. "It's like the Antichrist, but that's why it's so important what we're doing right now to get elections back instead of selections because the people you're going to be regulating something that's so powerful that something man has never seen."

Tucker Carlson unwittingly described what other Fox News hosts, including himself, constantly do and say to their audience -- while attacking CNN for reporting on the new UN Climate Change report.

Via The Washington Post, "The U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) found that the world is likely to surpass its most ambitious climate target — limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above preindustrial temperatures — by the early 2030s."

Since Tuckems panders to his anti-science, Christianist nationalist audience of conspiracy theorists, he attacked the UN and CNN.

Carlson's program played a few clips of CNN hosts covering the latest news.

"Humanity is on thin ice, and that ice is melting fast," John King said. "That warning, courtesy of the United Nations Secretary-General, made in tandem with a brand new United Nations report labeling the planet a ticking time bomb."

After the video stopped, Carlson began his anti-science rant that ended in his usual high-pitched squeal.

"There's no such thing as climate alarmism anymore. Nothing you say can be too extreme. It doesn't matter. That's science," Carlson squeaked.

The Daily Show's Jordan Klepper went looking for all of the supporters that Trump called on to flood the streets of downtown Manhattan.

Trump told all of them that he was going to be arrested this week. Klepper found just a handful of nuts out there willing to go to bat for Dear Leader.

But after Donald Trump called on his supporters to flood the streets of downtown Manhattan this week ahead of his expected indictment, Klepper only had to catch the subway.

“So yesterday, I ventured all the way downtown and joined the media circus to observe this crowd of MAGA protesters that were definitely around here somewhere,” Klepper says in the exclusive segment. [...]

Instead of a January 6th-esque mob, Klepper mostly found a lot of other camera crews and a very small handful of Trump fans, including one “proud” supporter who felt the need to fully conceal his face and another man in a cowboy hat who admitted that absolutely nothing was happening outside the district attorney’s office.

“This was an unusual MAGA rally,” Klepper says from experience. “The numbers were low, and it was in my own city. However, the arguments over some basic facts were refreshingly familiar.”

Arizona's Supreme Court has rejected failed gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake's challenge to her election loss but kept the case somewhat alive by sending one of seven of Lake's claims back to a county judge to review.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Peter Thompson rejected Lake's wild-eyed claim that she was the rightful governor of Arizona.

Of course, Lake somehow sees this as a win, but the former news anchor is like Trump in a skirt, so she can't take the L.
